Lately I've been doing a lot of research on collegeboard and looking through some college research books. My options are very limited since my GPA is horid and my SAT's are mediocre. I plan to pick up the slack in college and make a complete 180. I've look through a lot of the threads on this site and I feel alittle out of place but I'll give this a shot anyway.

Colleges I'm highly considering, not sure if their longshots or not... Help me out?
U of Ohio (Athens) -- sister is alum
U of Alabama (Tuscaloosa)
U of Arkansas
U of Temple (Philadelphia) -- sister is alum
Ohio State U (Columbus) -- moms alum, dad was faculty at one point
U of Tennessee (Knoxville)
U of West Virginia
U of Bloomsburg
U of Auburn

I'm a senior this upcoming year and I currently have a 2.6-2.7 GPA cumlative. My SATs were 1640.. 500 writing, 600 math, 540 reading.

If you could just give me an idea where I stand, and some tips for the upcoming year. Primarily if I should partake in any extra activities. I play varsity soccer and I'm not behind in any units or credits.

PS - I'm from PA.
Thanks for your attention

that GPA is a killer I don't know any of those schools.
This is what I can tell you.
They are mostly big public schools and admit by scores/GPA
look at their averages, and see where you fall, because that's what it will come down to.

I been looking at all the stats on collegeboard and a lot of those schools have around 20%+ admittance through 2.5-2.99. And Alabama (my #1 choice) has an admittance of 70%. Maybe you guys could check out some of the stats on the search engine on collegeboard or whatever site you use and tell me what you think it terms of reaches/matches/safeties, thanks ahead of time.

I'm not sure about the others, but I highly recommend doing the optional personal statement for University of Tennessee. The middle 50% gpa range they put on the application is around 3.3-3.9 weighted. I've known people who've gotten into UTK with stats like yours, but they were all in-state. Apply early-especially if your out of state

That's probably right... Considering I registered onto a college forum, spent about 4-5 hours a day for the past 2 weeks on collegeboard and other sites figureing out the oos tuitions, costs, standards and graduation rates.
Maybe if you have nothing constructive to say, you should keep it to yourself. Not one thing you just said helped me in anyway. I'm just seeking extra opinions from people who know alittle to a lot more than I do in this subject.

Not that it matters because it's an online forum but I believe it's *hypocrite. Anyways, this is what I meant by you being lazy,
"Maybe you guys could check out some of the stats on the search engine..."
And really, it takes you 4-5 hours a day to figure out all that info about colleges!?!?!
Well, I think with your GPA, Temple is a reach. I'm not familiar with the others. Try to write good essays and make an effort to show that you care about the institution to which you are applying to. Also, try posting your chances in the sub-forums for the universities that you are applying to (if they are on CC) <- that's why I had so many chance threads, because the people there are more qualified because they are most likely students who go there. Good luck!
