what are my chances?

I know these are getting kind of old and annoying, but i'm stressing out and would just like to see if I had any sort of chance of getting into UVA.

By the time I graduate next year, I would have taken 9 AP courses. (Soph: Stat, Junior: Enviro, Calc AB, and Bio, Senior: Calc Bc, Macro, Spanish, Physics: N/M, Physics: E/M). So far, i've managed to get an A/ A- in all of them except for one B+ in AP Bio :/ My gpa at the end of my junior year should be slightly above a 4.2 ( so its obviously weighted).

I'm waiting to hear back for my June sat scores, and I'm hoping for at least a 2100. I'll keep you guys updated. I thought math and writing were jokes, but I struggled with the vocab section. My May subject test scores were awful- 670 on math 1 and 650 on Bio. I'm planning to take the ACT in September.

Here are some of my extracurriculars:
- assistant teach first graders at my church
-volunteer at Bible Camp
-volunteer at Pedia Manor (a home where children on respirators and nebulizers live)
-volunteer at Buckingham Housing ( a local shelter home for abused and underprivileged children)
* Youth Counselor
* Adopt a family every holidays
*organized school supply/ backpack drives for the past 4 years
*Help the kids with hw, crafts, etc
- was a teen leader for Soldiers for Hope... the founder became very sick though, so I am starting my own soldier organization.. I've also done Soldiers' Angels
-play club travel soccer
*also help out at the annual Spring into Summer soccer tournament and the world cup 3 on 3 tournament
-play varsity ice hockey (captain next year)
-been working in a doctor's office since 8th grade
-babysit 2-4 times a week
-member of Key Club, NHS, SHS (secretary), OEG ( hopefully leader next year), Spanish Club, and Student Government Senate ( if I get accepted!)
-Math leagues

If I forgot to mention anything, I'll be sure to update my list of extracurriculars!

Again, I apologize for making ANOTHER one of these threads. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

oh, and I would be an out of state applicant, which makes this process even more stressful and difficult!

It’s REALLY difficult to gage without knowing your SAT I scores. (Try the ACT too just for good measure. Many find it easier.) It looks as though you’re off to a good start. Your ECs look good, especially those where you hold a leadership position. The only thing I see missing are awards/recognitions. Get your SAT to at least a 2150, and you have as good of a shot as any OOS. (Not super encouraging, I know, but around 28-29% do get in – could be you!) Good luck!

I won the spanish award, if that counts for anything. haha. Most awards at my school are offered to seniors, which doesn’t really help my application process.

But thank you for reading this! And yes, I should have waited to post this until I receive my SAT scores, but I was too anxious!

if your SAT subject are any indicator of your SAT scores, your chance aren’t great. blnt

haha it’s not! maybe on my reading this time… but math and writing, i expect to be in the high 700s. I actually took some time to prepare for the SAT 1. The SAT 2’s, I winged and I’m pretty confident that I can score above a 700 on them when I retake them in the fall.

But if my future scores aren’t what I believe them to be, you’re very right :/

My daughter, a rising junior at BC, got a 2160 on the SAT and that was higher than the vast majority of her friends. You might also want to NOT mention some of your voluntary jobs, if they were just one-shot deals. You have listed a lot there and it is more important to show quality (longevity) than quantity. Best of luck to you!

OP…my D applied and was accepted to several of the same schools you seem to be interested in (UVA, UNC, BC, and Northwestern). She was accepted at all (OOS for UVA and UNC and Honors for BC). I’m uncertain if this will be helpful or not, but she had a 2250 SAT, 790 (Chem) & 770 (MathII) SAT II, all As at private prep (12 APs – all 5s), and lots of ECs/awards. She decided UVA was the best fit and will start this fall. Again, I would encourage you to shoot for a 2150. Admissions has become VERY competitive and unpredictable, so you want to try and maximize your options. Based solely on SAT scores, I would say Northwestern will be your biggest reach, but you never know; you might get in there and denied or waitlisted somewhere else; it’s anyone’s guess. All you can do is try, right? Good luck!

Ah I know! It’s such a stressful process, and can sometimes be very random. My teacher told us about how her daughter got denied from Richmond and when she called to ask about the rejection, the admissions lady said that the person reading her transcript must have been in a bad mood that day because she didn’t see anything wrong with it. It’s incidents like that, that scare me!

but thank you all so much for your inputs! I’m new to this website and just found out that there is a “what are my chances” forum, so sorry for this bother!

to the OP:

your stats and mine are extremely similar. i got wait-listed.

just some perspective.
