Chances for an out of stater

I know many of you just went through the process yourself and I would be very greatful if you could evaluate my chances at UVA based on your own personal experiences. (By the way, I'm from out of state.)

GPA: 3.8w but good grade trend (3.5 frosh... 3.6 soph... 4.3 junior)
Class Rank: 20/210

SAT I- M: 670
CR: 790
W: 750

SAT II- US: 790
Bio: 750

AP- US His: 5 Bio: 5

ECs:
Basketball: 9-12
Cross Country:10-12 captain
National Honor Society: 12

So there it is. I would really appreciate any imput about my chances. Thanks.

Well i hope you have a few more ecs. Nice rank, nice scores, write a good essay and you will be competitive. Sadly, that's is all that out of state students can be.

I think you have a good shot.

You've got a great shot. Write good essays, ace your senior year classes (and don't take a light schedule), and get that math SAT score up.

anyone else?

good MATCH

How much will the mediocre class rank hurt me?

I am attempting to finalize my list before senior year starts. I would appreciate the evaluation of my stats.

GPA: 3.7 i am not sure if this is weighted or not
AP's:AP Lang, AP US History completed, taking AP microecon, AP macroecon, AP Gov, AP comparitive, AP Span IV, AP Eng Lit
SATs: 690 verbal (critical reading)
570 math
640 writing
I plan on taking SATIIs soon
Rank: 63rd out of 469 (top 13 percent)

ECs: soccer: cap one year (3 years highschool, 12 years club)
participant and group leader in AP US night school (once a week essay class at night), volunteer big brothers big sisters and through key club, member church youth group, spanish tutor to elementary school, worked last summer and this summer as hostess/waitress
honors, awards:national honor society, honor roll, others that i cannot remember

I am from huntsville al, white female, don't know if that makes a difference.

also, i was wondering if UVA is considered a conservative school... i am looking for diversity.
i am planning on taking the SATS again to raise my math score hopefully

medianette,
It depends on what school you are comparing UVa to, if you're comparing it to say Oberlin, then yes it is conservative. If you're comparing it to Bob Jones University then its very liberal. I'd say overall its somewhere in the middle of the spectrum maybe a little to the conservative side but you can still find plenty of diversity.

As far as your chances if the 3.7 is unweighted that is pretty good, if that is weighted then you really need to bring it up. SAT scores need to go up as does the class rank. It is very difficult to get into UVa from out of state (I think somewhere around 30% get accepted). Out of state students are almost always in the top 10% of their class. That said, if you have a good hook and could bring something unique to UVa then that can make up for gaps in other areas.

Good luck!

My son got in out-of-state with only 1290 SAT's. On his side his class rank
was 1/445, 4.3 weighted and he was applying to their engineering school which
does not have a top reputation. We had been told he had no chance of
getting in. So you can see it's very hard to predict. He's not going to UVA
either. Good luck.

thanks for the advice. My math score is really killing me...
