What Are My Options?

I am looking to transfer to the highest ranked school that I possibly can. My undergrad GPA is 3.6 with your regular 1st- 2nd year philosophy/ political science classes from a decent school in the Midwest. I will apply as a philosophy and/or political science major. I should have 60 credits after next semester(spring 2010). Undergrad ECs of note are football for a year at the D1aa(FCS) level and about 40 hours of community service. My HS GPA was 4.0w and I had a 30 ACT with pretty good ECs(if that even matters).

If you have the time, could you make a list of the top LAC's I have a realistic chance at, and the top universities I have a realistic chance at? Thanks a lot.

hate doing this, bump.

with a 3.6 you can get into a decent school like NYU’s CAS probably

if you’re looking for ivy league or any of the most-selective universities, those typically require 3.7+ GPA’s

First off, trying to transfer into the “highest ranked school” is an unreasonable and inappropriate way of approaching the issue.

All schools are different, so you should probably start off doing some serious research on school’s you think you might like to go to, flip through the course offerings and faculty profiles of the philosophy and poli sci departmental websites, checking out the admissions websites, etc. Find out where you would like to be.

Why do you want to transfer?

Some higher ranked schools that you might have a shot at are Emory and Vanderbilt…

CBU over in Memphis might take you. They are having enrollment problems due to the economy (the state school nearby is half the price, give or take) from what I have heard and so they might like your stats.

There is a professor over at CBU who is rather well researched in Process Philosophy from what I have heard.

Your big thing is going to be the 60 some odd credits. Make sure you can have as many of them as possible transfer as proper credits and not electives no matter where you wind up.

Navyarf, after I posted this I figured somebody was going to do some moralizing. I guess I wasn’t completely honest in my post, I’m not looking at schools based on rank alone. I asked that particular question so I could get an idea of the top schools I will actually have a chance at. Not that I will pick one school over the other for the sole fact it is ranked higher, I asked the question just to establish some sort of range of schools to look into. So, despite the unneeded moralizing and disrespectful tone, thanks for your response. I will say though, I should have phrased my question differently if I was looking to establish a range of schools to look into.

So from what I can tell, I should have a decent chance at schools ranked(USNews) 25 or so and up. This is sort of what I was thinking I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t being delusional.

And CBU looks like a just fantastic school for me.
