Advice?!

I attend a community college in New york; I have completed 45 credit hours with a cumulative gpa of 3.54. I want to major in philosophy--as I feel this will be facilitative in preparing me for law school.

I really want to go to a large and reputable university.

What are some colleges that I have a reasonable chance of being admitted to?

I would LOVE to go to the University of Florida! Is this out of my reach?

--I didnt afford my hs information because by the time I transfer I will have over 60 credits.

Thanks in advance!!

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (where philosophy is) is hard to transfer into. They definitely give preference to in-state community college transfers, then to in-state university transfers. 3.54 is right around the minimum for the more popular programs so it's all going to depend on how many transfers are majoring in philosophy.

Philosophy isn't the only major that will help you get into law school. Anything analytical like math or econ, will definitely give you an edge. But those won't be easy to transfer into either.

My cousin goes to law school at Iowa which is a top 30 school. I remember him telling me that the biggest skills you need for law school are the ability to read large texts quickly, analytical skills, and writing skills. He double majored in Math and English and felt that those two majors displayed to the ad comm's that he could both analyze and write well. Consider a double major in two fields that emphasize those types of skills if your looking to get into somewhere competitive.

hmmm..anyone else?????????
