Dont indulge him lol

Come on have u not seen Alexandre’s infamous tier system.

Dont indulge him lol

I wanna see!! :D

“Someone makes a favorable ranking for UMich. Rankings not so bad afterall.”

Really sefago? Care to share with the class who praised such a ranking?

rjk applauding the tier system

By the way Mich and berkeley should be moved a tier down, hold on let me fix it

Tier 1: HYPSM
Tier 2: Lower Ivies, Duke, Chicago, Hopkins, NU
Tier 3: UCLA, Vandy, UCB, Michigan, Virginia,Wash U, Emory, CMU, Rice e.t.c

Actually, this seems like a reasonable way to group the schools with regards to their undergraduate programs, though I’d cut out Caltech on the basis that I consider it in the same light as I do Julliard and Cooper Union. While I don’t mean to fan the flames any, at the undergraduate level, class size does indeed play a role in teaching quality, and public schools (UMich and UCB) can’t compare for the most part.

Then again, I’ve never attended either of those schools, but I do understand that at several top-private schools it’s not uncommon to have classes with less than four students enrolled.

Throwing in a thanks to sefago for not forgetting Chicago. We like to pretend to be an inconspicuous state school sometimes. ;)

" While I don’t mean to fan the flames any, at the undergraduate level, class size does indeed play a role in teaching quality, and public schools (UMich and UCB) can’t compare for the most part."

Look at this ranking. No Duke to be found here. :-)

OMG! Look what two large publics come in at #6 AND #8! I guess class size isn’t the biggest determinator.

^ cant argue with that

Chicago is actually a school I respect overall as a university. Its strong all round in the liberal arts plus (and most important) it is very undergraduate focused. Infact, I would not be arguing that much if the debate was over Chicago- I would put columbia and chicago right after HYPSMC. Sorry caltech stays- they have undergrad programs in the social sciences, just you dont hear much about it and its probably taught from the science perspective.

Didn’t you just swear off rankings? ;)

^^^Only use them when someone makes a comment that I find inaccurate. ;-)

"Tier 1: HYPSM
Tier 2: Lower Ivies, Duke, Chicago, Hopkins, NU
Tier 3: UCLA, Vandy, UCB, Michigan, Virginia,Wash U, Emory, CMU, Rice e.t.c "

Sefago, although I do not agree entirely with your grouping, I would not argue against it as it is consistant and fair. On a side note, you forgot Caltech and Chicago, both of which belong in group 2.

Allow me to fix this up Alexandre.

Tier 1: HYPSM
Tier 2: Lower Ivies, Berkeley, Caltech, Chicago, Hopkins, Michigan, NU
Tier 3: UCLA, Vandy, Virginia,Wash U, Emory, CMU, Rice, Wisconsin e.t.c "

Now that looks better…:-)

rjk likes rankings just as much as I do. Its human nature to love rankings. He just doesnt like rankings that suck for UMich. General thinking process of a UMich grad:

Rhodes & churchhill scholar rankings=Bad (only a few schools win rhodes)
USNEWS bad (too many private schools, focuses on immaterial things like alumni donation. I kind of like the peer ranking though, its awesome)
.

.
Bingo
PA scores (excellent, would use to support my points. Who knows more than paper-pushing administrators who give their secretaries the right to fill the USNWR PA survey on their behalf)

If only Michigan had a Lacrosse. team… or does it?

Nope all the lax bros are at duke and johns hopkins

It actually has a Men’s Club team and I’ll be rooting for Duke this coming spring season :D

Club level currently. It sounds like it is going to be at the varsity level soon:

dude that would be awesome :D

You actually watch lacrosse really?? Like sit down, and proper watch it. Not like someone forces you to watch it.

Lacrosse is only popular in schools in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region. Its just like ultimate frisbee or whatever its called
