Hello everyone,
I’m currently a High School senior. I just want to ask which community college in California, preferably San Diego, I should attend so that I can transfer easily to UCSD, or UCI. Also, what should I do in community college to have a stand-out transfer application?
Thank you so much for all of your replies!

There is no “easy” transfer to UCSD and UCI however, you can use TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) for UCI. UCSD does not participate in TAG. For TAG, if you complete the required courses and maintain the minimum GPA, you are guaranteed admission to UCI.
TAG information: Guaranteed Admissions | Office of Undergraduate Admissions | UCI
San Diego City College, Grossmont College, San Diego Mesa, Southwestern and Cuyamaca College are all located in the San Diego area and Miracosta College in Oceanside. I would look over the courses required to transfer and then determine which community college has the best coverage of the transfer courses. You can use assist.org to figure out which classes are available.
Regarding having the best possible chances for transfer:
- High/Competitive GPA
- Completion of all the required and recommended courses by Spring prior to Transfer
- Major related work/internships
- Good personal insight essay questions

You go where you can live at home, and to the school that has a transfer agreement with UCI. You communicate every semester with advisors at both the community college and UCI, to make sure that you’re on the right track for transfer. Get straight A’s in community college. Not necessary to compile a resume of ECs. If you want to/need to, you work part time. If you don’t need to work part time, and you can handle the load, you take 6 classes a semester year-round, so that you can transfer with your associate’s degree as quickly as possible.
Have you read about UCSD UniversityLink? UniversityLink is a pathway to a premier four-year university by way of community college. You are eligible for UniversityLink if your family income is no more than $40,000 per year and you are a high school senior planning to attend one of the UniversityLink local partner community colleges.
If your family does not meet the eligibility requirements, you might still be interested in the list of community colleges that UCSD partners with on that webpage to search for a community college that regularly has transfers to UCSD.
