I'm trying to find a well paying part time job during my time at UT. It seems to me that the best paying jobs would be the ones at the fancier restaurants, but I could easily be mistaken. What kind of places are the best paying? Are there any specific places that you recommend that have flexible hours, good pay, etc? Are there any places that are to be avoided? If you're not from the Austin area, feel free to comment on your employment experience with chains of restaurants/stores.. thank you!

Escort serv…aw heck…never mind.

people at restuarants dont make alot of money at all. i think around $3 an hour or something like that, they make most of their money through tips.(assuming you are are applying to be a waiter)

as @ffhrea said the escort service probably would make you a good amount of cash.

I was actually going to say “escort service reviewer”.

lol i assumed you were tellin him do get his duece bigalow on lol

Ok, you caught me.

Yeah I was thinking about escort service, but the hours are just so unpredictable…

austin cryobank sperm donor. around $100-$150 per “deposit”. all you need is perfect genes and no history of addiction or diseases in the previous 3 generations of your family. you can go 2-3 days per week. this “job” pays much better than any other part-time job you could think of and the hours are a lot shorter. plus you don’t have to put on a happy face for jerk-off customers.

How many more posts before you think this thread gets closed?

lmao do not donate sperm, the escort service is probably the easiest/fastest way to make money lol but you may get addicted.

work at Gamestop !!!1

Don’t donate sperm… that is ludicrous unless you like the idea of having offspring you may never know.

I’m a mom of teens who live in Austin and compete with the college kids for jobs…Austin is a very competitive job market!

Restaurants - You can get the “no experience” restaurant jobs without too much difficulty, just try to beat the logical rush, i.e., think ahead and apply before the semester begins/ends. No way you will get the expensive, “fancier” restaurant wait jobs unless you have significant prior upscale wait experience. Austin has plenty of folks who treat those positions as their day job.

Retail - Jobs near campus are often “handed down” to friends. If you have wheels to get beyond the UT area, you will have better chances.

Alternatives - A great way to earn money is to think what Austin residents might need and how your talents and skills match up, e.g., certified lifeguards and swim instructors, golf course cart drivers and other low level support positions, tutors (especially foreign language and math), music instructors (if you’re accomplished, you could offer beginner lessons), dance, yoga and exercise instructors, babysitters and “after school” carpool/other support for older kids, etc.

UPS - Great employer, some part-time jobs, not all driving.

Website content updates and similar - Nice gigs because can set your own hours and work from your computer.

In today’s economy, it is not as easy as you’d think. You will dramatically improve your chances if you network with others and make personal drop-ins to inquire about open positions vs. solely rely on emailing apps and resumes.

Thank you for that excellent response TXArtemis! You definitely gave me the information I needed and I’ll be sure to research all your suggestions. Thanks!
