What are some good safety schools (other than my state flagship)?

What I'm looking for in a school:
Merit aid
academic rigor
lots of student/professor interaction
academics > sports
outside of Tennessee
I have no preference between public or private schools.
religious affiliation is okay, as long as it doesn't dominate the curriculum.
somewhat prefer urban location

Since the EA deadline has already passed for most schools, and I have already applied ED somewhere else, I would probably be applying RD for the safeties.

Concerns. Valid?
extracurriculars don't quite align with intended major
have great relationships with English/History teachers. Not so much with Math/Science teachers.
GSA might decrease chance of admission

Hendrix would be a perfect “safety” school for you. Has been named #1 up-and-coming school in the US many years in a row, good at math, GSA actually a plus there, excellent merit aid.
