Just thinking about next year... I hope to get accepted, but have to be realistic and realize that I probably will be deferred. What are some "matches" for Stanford applicants that are similar to Stanford in terms of atmosphere, student body, etc.

Well I would answer this question, but I haven't actually been accepted to those match schools as of yet! Hopefully, March 29-April 1 will be among the greatest days of my life!

I hear Rice has a pretty similar atmosphere. I also read it's #1 in Student Happiness or Standard of Living, I can't remember which one. I myself applied and got in.

I would strongly endorse Pomona, Rice as both being very similar to S. I personally think Duke is very different from S in Student Body and atmosphere. Duke is a great school, but a very different feel in my view.

Fiske/several college websites I visited put Stanford atmosphere as most like Rice, with Duke close by. Personally, I get the Rice connection. I don't understand Duke. Duke has frat boys by the gallon.

Texas isn't really "the south." I'm from South Carolina, and I say that you should stay away from the "Deep south." I can't wait to get out of here. If you want more specific "stay out of the south" info, just PM me.

Cal Berkeley !
Seriously I know alot of Stanford people hate on Cal, but honestly it is a good school. And chances are if you got Deferred at Stanford, you are probably good enough to get in to Cal.

I would say MIT is not a "match" for anyone ... it is a reach, and just as hard to get into as Stanford lol.

Pomona is probably the most similar to Stanford and the best match; I mean, the same architect designed both universities, as well as Occidental's. Also, both have a similar "laid back" vibe.

^Agreed with post #17. In fact, I'm not sure which would offer the better undergraduate education (purely academics wise), Pomona or Stanford. I'm leaning toward Pomona, but then again I am thinking solely about humanities, not math/science/engineering/etc.
