What are some things I can do to get into the top cs programs?

Hi all,
I’m currently a junior in high school. I want to major in computer science and would like to know what I can do to improve my chances of attending one of the top cs programs. I currently take 4 ap, 1 post ap (post ap computer science, I took ap compsci my sophomore year), and 1 honors class. I scored a 33 on my first ACT but will take it again in February. I have been coding pretty seriously for 2 years and I’m currently developing an application that utilizes soccer match data to help athletes replicate the play of their favorite players. I’m planning on doing an internship this upcoming summer along with developing other projects/doing independent work. I currently know java, swift, some python and c.

Thank you for your help!

GPA, GPA, GPA

Hi eyemgh,
My school doesn’t go by a GPA system, but I currently have an average of around 96-97 (weighted) right now.

What is your home state? What is your budget?

With an average grade of 96 you should be able to get into some very good CS programs. Do you have all A’s, or if not do you have all A’s in math and CS related classes?

You do not need to go to a “top 20” university to do very well in CS.

DadTwoGirls-- Thanks for the reply. I’m actually an international student attending boarding school (all four years of high school) in Connecticut. I’m taking BC calc right now and plan on taking multivariable and linear algebra next year. Yes, I usually score A’s in math/CS related classes.

And I’m okay with the budget.
