I am currently a junior in high school and have a 3.4 GPA. This year I am taking my first AP class which is computer science (computer science is what I want to major in btw) and I am really going to put forth all my effort this year and try to reach a 4.0 for the year (if not, as close as possible). This year I will join: Future Business leaders of America, chess club, work 1-2 jobs, community service and intern at places that do software engineering. Also I have played 2 years of soccer at JV level and decided not to play this year so that I can focus on school. I’m currently taking a lot of tutoring sessions for the ACT and plan on taking it multiple times to reach my goal of a 30 or higher. Given this information what do you think my chances are of getting in the college? Any advice? (if any)…
If you’re talking about schools like CMU, MIT, Stanford, then honestly, probably not. But there are plenty of other schools out there with good CS programs out there that will accept you, you have plenty of time to do some research.
Until you have finished your Junior year and have solid test scores, you cannot be chanced. You are on the right track with your grades, test prep and EC’s. At the end of Junior year, repost with all the pertinent data and you can be chanced.
What is your Home State? How much can you and your family afford? Where would you like to go to school? Large/Small/Urban/Suburban/Rural/Private/Public?? Visit some schools in your area and get an idea of what type of school you are looking for. Good Luck.
