What are some transfer-friendly universities for community college students?

Hi there!

I'm a cc student in California, and I am planning on transferring in the Fall of 2014. I really want to go out of state, specifically on the east coast or the north of the west coast (Washington).

my college GPA: 3.8
my major: english
I would like to go to a college that has a really helpful transfer program for community college students.

The colleges I have applied to or I am still looking into are:
UC Berkeley
UCLA
Barnard
Bryn Mawr
NYU

I was hoping to know more information about these schools (except UC Berkeley and UCLA) or any other universities outside of California?

Thanks!

Can you afford them?

Many state schools aren’t that hard to transfer in to (including reputable ones like UMich & UNC). Maybe W&M and UVa as well. And yes, NYU. Columbia GS is also an option if you had a break of at least one year in your education after HS graduation. Paying for them may be the more important question.

All UCs and CSUs are transfer friendly for California community college students.

Generally, public universities tend to be more transfer-friendly, but out-of-state public schools tend to be poor with financial aid (Virginia and North Carolina may be exceptions). Some private schools (including Columbia) promise less financial aid for transfers than for frosh (and some have poor financial aid to begin with, such as NYU).

Bryn Mawr has made clear efforts to become CC transfer friendly. Here is what the website has to say about community college transfers: https://www.brynmawr.edu/admissions/transfer-students/transfer-faqs</a>

Good luck!
