I would love to double major in politcal science and International relations. What would be the benefits of doing it? I also want to get my master’s in International relations. I was also thinking majoring in political science but minoring in Arabic studies then getting my master’s in International relations at Columbia.
First, if you want to go to NYU, international relations is an honors-only major offered within the Department of Politics. So you wouldn’t be need to double-major there - it’s already interdisciplinary.
Second, many students overestimate the benefits of double-majoring. See this essay for a counterargument:
There aren’t many major ones other than it’s possible that you acquire more skills if you major in two fields that are very different from each other.
