What are the best colleges by state?

I guess Pittsburgh is closer to the Midwest than I thought it was going to be.

I go to Pitt, and we definitely don't consider ourselves Midwest. We're in the Big East, not the Little 11. I think if Pittsburghers had to choose one, they'd choose East Coast, but neither fits perfectly. "Mid-Atlantic," which usually includes PA, NY, NJ, and sometimes MD and DE seems to fit best.

Illinois-

U of Chicago
Northwestern
UIUC

NY
Columbia
Cornell
NYU

AZ
Arizona State
Arizona
NAU

It's more about style than location. I'm from Cleveland (Midwest) and can say that cities like Pittsburgh, Erie, and Buffalo are definitely Midwestern styled.

Trust me, as a Clevelander it's hard to admit that Pittsburgh is in the Midwest because I hate them oh so much ;)

Illinois:
1. Northwestern
2. U Chicago
3. UIUC

Top schools in Massachusetts:

Harvard - Country's most sought after university.
MIT - Country's most sought after engineering school
Williams - Often ranked #1 LAC nationally very old and rich
Tufts - Excellent school just a notch below Ivys which irritates them
Boston College - Solid academics and only division 1 football in Mass
Holy Cross - The top Catholic LAC in the country per USNWR
Wellesley - Rich prestigious and all female
Brandeis - Jewish and well respected academics, strong for premed
Boston Univ - Solid academics, large very city campus ala GWU

Don't forget Amherst! -- unless of course you go to Williams, then I understand.

Alexandre, I'd say Cleveland has far more in common with the east coast then let's say Omaha or Fargo. All three cities are considered in the "midwest." Somewhere along the way you have to draw a line. I use "Ellicott's Line" to draw my boundary. Most geographers would agree with me. :-)

Massachusetts. There are tons of colleges in mass.

Objective look

Harvard

MIT

Williams

Amherst

Tufts (Wellesley if you're a girl)

Order of where I would want to go

MIT

Harvard

Northeastern

BU

Wpi

Umass Amherst

obviously I personally don't like lacs that much and want to study engineering

Babson, Bently, BC, and Brandeis are also very good

Atomicfusion. I'd say that Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo are much more east coast than midwest. If it weren't for those countries in the other hemisphere on this planet, i think it would be fair to call this area of our country the "mideast." Of course that would cause a lot of confusion, so let's leave it the way most people understand it.

New Jersey

Princeton

TCNJ

Rutgers

i guess some people would put RU over TCNJ because most out of NJ have never heard of TCNJ. its actually more selective and has better SAT scores, expecially when you include newark/camden as part of Rutgers (everyone gets the same diploma). and on the whole, people who went to TCNJ from my hs class were more intelligent than those who went to RU. still both great schools

I'd probably put Stevens over both Rutgers and TCNJ, but that's just me.

Massachusetts:

Boston College
Brandeis

New York

Illinois:

California:

Pennsylvania

 1. UPenn
 2. CMU
 3. Lehigh
 4. Bucknell
 5. Penn State

This is a seven year old thread. You probably would want to start a new thread if you want to have this argument again.

North Carolina-Duke, Davidson, Wake, UNC. Massachusetts-Harvard, Amherst, Williams, MIT, Wellesley, Holy Cross,Tufts.
