Hello!

I am trying to go home for College, and I really want to know, which universities are the best of the best in California.

I already know USC UCLA UCI Stanford CAL and Pepperdine(arguably) but are their any others?

oh and all the ucs I know about=)

Thanks

The Claremont Colleges are good - Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, etc.

It very much depends on what you plan to study. Discovering which college is “the best” in someone else’s opinion does you little good if that college does not offer a program of study in your major. In addition, colleges that are “the best” in one area may not be so in another.

Caltech, depending on your major

I plan on studying either bio or psych. But i know every university has that and I’m not really worried about that right now. I want to know which colleges are known for their academics overall.
And addition to academics, I really am looking into social life.

So really my question is still, which colleges in California are the best

[California Colleges - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/california-colleges/)

My vote, after just about deciding with my youngest, and seeing my oldest through her junior year in college ( and NOT in California…)

Best overall “academics” - Stanford, Pomona also the other Claremonts
Best value? Cal , UCLA, UCSD, UCD, AND the Pacific Northwest
Best Engineering? CIT, Cal Poly SLO, Harvey Mudd…Cal Poly Pomona still a contender in THIS house…
Best for regular “human” students (i.e. acceptance rate over two digits); Occidental…also SCU, LMU (<----best “diversity”, best location!!!).

No, I will not defend myself. Too tired…

Are you male? Do you find interesting in ranching? Do you want to transfer to Harvard? If yes to the first two, then Deep Springs College is the way for you.

^^ actually I am a woman so no thanks. And I don’t want to transfer to Harvard. No thanks

Stanford, UC’s (I saw that you didn’t have Davis on your list), Cal Poly come to mind.

Wait, but you do have an interest in ranching?

Oh not at all. I’m not a ranching person. I have an interest in going to college though. lol And getting my pre med then DR in California=)

Don’t try to convince me. I’m not the outdoor type. lol

Oh yea, I forgot about UC Davis.

I don’t really know much about that school though. Do you have any info on it Acuraman?

The Claremont Colleges (Harvey Mudd, Claremont Mckenna, Scripps, Pitzer, and Pomona) (Good for almost everything)
Occidental (Not really sure what they’re good for)
Cal Tech (Engineering and Sciences)
University of San Diego (Business)
Loyola Marymount (Business)
Santa Clara University (Business and Engineering)
Chapman (Sciences and Business)
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (Engineering)
UC’s (San Diego, Davis, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Riverside, Merced) (All of them are very good, but I’d say they put a lot of emphasis on Science and Engineering with some emphases on Political Science)

It just really depends on what you want to study, but I do have to say that several California colleges are good mainly because of a strong emphasis on the sciences and engineering.

California State University, Northridge has a great Psychology department. The school has a mixed reputation. It’s generally well respected locally, but has also been known to be for “UCLA rejects”. I did my undergrad there and it really is a good school. If anything, the perks are that it tends to be much cheaper than other schools and also can work as a great safety choice because the acceptance rate is pretty high, especially for undergrad. Good luck!

I’ll be attending USC in the fall, but I’m from Virginia so I don’t know much about other schools in California. My friend who is good at music and academics applied to Occidental. Maybe that’s a school worth looking into. Also, I don’t know much about Pepperdine itself, but the campus looks like an absolute paradise.
