i used to be a total slacker and I am wondering what are my chances at the ivy level?

My grades are very UNIMPRESSIVE, with a 3.34 cumulative GPA. I never studied, earning C+'s and B's. My AP grades aren't that good either. One 5, and the rest are 3s.

I've only taken 6 AP courses. I will not take Physics although I am taking AP Calc. AB.

My Info:

Asian (no, obviously, I'm not one of those who sit at home and study all day)

SATs: 700V, 780M, 740W
SAT IIs: Bio: 800, Math LVI: 720, Math LVII: 770, US History: 580

Been to 4 different high schools (family moved a lot)

Many great teacher recommendations, despite average grades. (I guess it was because I raised my hand a lot in class)

so, can anyone out there with any experiences with slackers care to share some insight into my situation?

Honestly, I think your chances at all of the Ivies (and Georgetown...why are you interested in all the Ivies except for Yale?) are VERY low. Your GPA is quite low (I thought my GPA was bad for applying to Cornell with a 3.6UW). Your scores may have been good enough if your GPA was good, but they certainly don't stick out. In fact, for the harder Ivies, your scores will hurt you. Your ECs aren't that good, which will be partially excused by the moving, but even so, they aren't very impressive. UVA is also a reach. are you in-state though, because that would help?

On a more positive note, you should get into University of Florida and American.

You need some schools between the levels of UVA and the 2 safeties.

I won't say it as mean as uvajoe, but your chances aren't looking so great. Why don't you try for colleges that offer merit-aid based on SAT scores?

Harvard- Very bad chance
Princeton- Very bad chance
Brown- Bad chance
Cornell- Bad chance
Dartmouth- Very bad chance
Georgetown- Decent chance
U-Penn- Bad chance
Columbia- Bad chance

University of Florida- Great chance
University of Virginia- a bit above a decent chance
American University- Awesome chance

kingjames....why on earth would be have a decent chance at georgetown and not one at any other schools?.....georgetown has a lower rate of acceptance than brown, cornell, upenn, and varies around that of dartmouth....

this just goes to show how there are so many kids applying just to schools based on how society perceives the names....this guy has a better shot at cornell, penn, brown, and maybe darthmouth than he does at georgetown

im sorry, but clearly you know nothing about georgetown.....

p.s. to the op, i hate to give you another shot of realism, but u need to find safeties and matches you're happy at...

"In fact, for the harder Ivies, your scores will hurt you."

It might hurt in the sense that top schools will view anyone with high test-scores yet an average to low GPA as being smart, but lazy or unmotivated.

When someone looks at your app, they will see high SAT scores and a low GPA. This will tell them that you are smart, but you are lazy and slacked off at HS. Which means you probably won't get into any ivies. Even if you did, would you really want to go there. I mean, considering that you yourself admit that you have bene a slacker, could you handle the workload?

Sorry for being harsh, but I think that's close to the truth.
