What are the chances of me getting into Harvard? And please be honest :)

I'm an applicant for the Class of 2015 and decision letters come out next week. Nervous? That's an understatement, but I wanted to ask everyone out there what they thought were my chances of getting into Harvard College.

Overall, I am a very involved student at my high school, always including myself in extracurricular activities and doing much volunteer work. I've done two humanitarian service trips, one to Costa Rica for a church remodel, and the other to the Dominican Republic for a church construction. In addition, I'm in the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. I've gotten a 5 on my AP Spanish exam during my Junior year and am currently taking 3 AP courses in my senior year, with the rest of my courses being honor classes (Just pointing out... I have the most difficult schedule that my high school can offer). I'm ranked 9th in my class out of 115. I am a first generation college student and am of Hispanic descent.

Okay, I sound alright, but my downfall are my SATs. I have a combined score of an 1870. CR: 550. Math: 630. Writing: 690. I got a 760 on my Spanish SAT Subject and a 580 on my Math II.

My dream is to become a general, pediatric, or cardiac surgeon. Call me crazy for applying to a Biology program at Harvard, but my guidance counselor always pushed me for it, regardless of the outcome. So, you tell me... do you think I can get in?

Well you applied, so your chances aren’t 0%, but you are significantly below average statistically. Without a major hook, it is rare that a sub 2000 sat person gets accepted (and the Spanish sat 2 doesn’t do much if you are Hispanic). But admissions aren’t all about statistics, you are a urm, and you have some interesting stories so you never know. To conclude, you have a chance, but your stats will be a serious disadvantage. Good luck!

low SATs and rank not great either. Spanish ECs aren’t much of a help because you’re Hispanic. URM and first gen. would help, but i don’t think it would help enough.Rejection.

Wow…obviously the two people above opened up some rejection letters recently. Lol. Don’t let these people kill your hope. You sent in your application, there is nothing to be worried about, all you can do is believe and pray.

Don’t trust people on this site too much, especially when they are being so negative. Most of these people on this site couldn’t get into this school and if some could, it would all be over after the interview. They don’t know every EC you did over the past four years, they didn’t read your essays, they didn’t read your recommendations and they weren’t there for your interview. Don’t count yourself out because of your tests scores. People with 2400s and 36s get rejected every year. If there was a minimum score for application it would have been specified. It is not all about those numbers. From what I read you have a high class rank and interesting ECs. Don’t lose your hope on this school until you get that rejection letter(if), and even then you still shouldn’t lose hope…

It’s obvious that you are a very motivated and exceptional student based on your class rank and ECs, but it seems that your school didn’t prepare you when I look at your test scores–this is one of the reasons why colleges ask for your high school profile. They look at your performance in the context of your entire school and what resources it has offered you.

What about your unweighted and weighted GPA?

To be honest, based on the information you have provided…I see no chance of you getting in. Sorry.

<1%

sorry.
