What are the chances of me getting into these schools?

I am thinking of applying to Andover, Exeter, Hills, Milton and Lawrenceville.
I just wanted to know what the chance are of me getting in these schools.
Thank you for your time.

I am currently an Asian female seventh grader living in Xiamen China, and going to an international school. Our international school is very small and so we don't have a lot of extracurricular activities. I get average grades in school; we use the 1-7 grading system. 7 is excellent. I usually get 5 and 6.

Community and Service:
• I go to the One Heart Charity bimonthly, I have been going since 2010.
• I also go to walkathons.
• Every New Year, I go to a very poor Elderly Care Center.
• Recently, I have been to another city in China called Shenzhen. A group of students from our school went there to build a garden for a Community Service Center for Kids.

Sports:
• I have been chose to represent my school for two years (2010-2011) and possibly next year for playing soccer.
• I have also been a cheerleader for almost 2 years now.
• I have played baseball for a year for the Xiamen Armadillos.
• I have played badminton for two years, ice-skating for one and a half year, yoga for one year, swimming for two years, archery for one year and Ping-Pong for one year.
• I started dance when I was 6, I tried out a lot of dances, including ballet, Latin and hip-hop.

Music:
• I play all types of percussion.
• I have been in the school band for 3 years now (since 2009), playing percussion.
• I have been chosen by AMIS (The Association for Music in International Schools) to go to for music concerts.
• I am in the Percussion Ensemble (2011-2012)
• I also got Top 10 for playing drums in a province in China.
• I have also played piano for 5 years. I passed the ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) piano Grade 5.
• I participated a lot of piano competitions and always got the Top 10 in the competition.
• Lastly, I have been in choir for 2 years. (2010-2011)

Awards and Certificates
• I got an honorable mention for the School’s Photography Contest in 2011.
• And last year, I earned an Academic Achievement Award, which was the Most Improved Certificate for Life Science.

Clubs and Committees:
• I have been in the yearbook committee for two years now. (2010-2011)
• I have also been in student council for 3 years now (2009-2012). In 5th grade I was voted as the President of the Lower School Student Council. In 6th grade, I was voted as the Class Representative. And now, I am the Vice-President of the Middle School Student Council.
• I am planning to run for the President of Middle Student Council next year.

Didn’t read, but do you need FA?

Have you taken the SSAT yet?
Imo, grades don’t really say much, since it really varies between schools. I’m not saying they don’t matter, but SSAT scores (or any other standardized tests) provide a better comparison.
Even though you say your school is small, your ECs and Clubs sound pretty good. I guess schools look for leaders, and being president, rep, and vp, sounds good on any app.
Music and sports are a bonus, too!

I totally do not mean any disrespect or mean to be racist, but it will be harder to get into Exeter/Andover because you are Chinese/Asian. Not because they discriminate, but because I’ve heard from multiple sources that about 50% of the international students in Exeter/Andover are of some Asian descent, and the AOs are trying to lower that. I’m not too sure about Milton, Lawrenceville, and the Hills, though.

With all that being said, I think you stand a pretty good chance.
Just do a good job on your essays and interviews, and I think you’re standing pretty. (:

Good luck ! x

As a parent, I rarely comment on these threads because I think they are fruitless.

But two things:

I have been told that the HARDEST applicant (in terms of percent admitted) is the Asian female group. There are just so many strong candidates within that cohort.

I would caution you against revealing so much about yourself online. If you feel compelled to get “chanced”, be more general in your descriptions of yourself.

I wish I could have known that when I applied, as I’m an Asian female needing FA :frowning: so yeah the decks were definitely stacked against me. Good luck in your application process- however, PLEASE consider applying to less selective schools. Some lesser-known schools are just as good in terms of academics, faculties, student body, etc.
