Hello all, my daughter has a burning passion for psychology and has a strong instinct to analyze people but has pretty low overall gpa (3.2) since she struggled so much emotionally at the university she initially attended therefore she transferred to the local CC and has been getting good grades since then. Cal Poly SLO is her dream school. Does anyone know what her chances could be?
The link below shows average CSU transfer GPA by campus which was 3.44 overall and not major specific.
If she at a local CC for SLO, then she gets priority. Everything will depend upon how she stacks up against the Psych applicants.
2109 projections for Psychology transfers shows an expected 830 applicants for 24 spots.
There are many other CSU’s that would love to have her so make sure she applies widely. Best of luck to your D
Wow, only 24 spots! That’s tougher than we have been anticipating. Thank you so much for your prompt response.
She is currently studying at a San Diego CC and was planning to transfer to Cuesta at SLO. I was wondering if that would still help.
Cuesta is one of the SLO feeder schools so it can help if the majority of her units would be taken at Cuesta making her a “local”
Cuesta will help, but the bottom line is this, take all of the required classes, as many of the recommended classes as possible and have as high a GPA as possible. Psych is very competitive. She’ll need a safety. Good luck!
Thank you for your responses! She always tries to learn and explore more about mind and behavior, specifically how using drugs and medications effect human psyche as a hobby anyway and brings the best grades for psychology classes but did not do good at some of the GEs at the university she initially enrolled. You are right, it will not be easy for her… Cal Poly Slo is famous for their strict algorithm regarding admissions, it will be a pitty if she cannot get into after all the hardship she had gone through for Slo.
