I’m trying to decide which location would be best for me for study abroad. I know it differs based on personal opinion, and different majors provide different opportunities, but I’d love to hear about some great study abroad locations and recommendations, cool experiences, etc. from personal experience!
You can’t beat Paris.
Depends on your major. My son is an engineering major and went to New Zealand. Other engineering majors go to Australia. Mostly because they spoke english and he could stay on track with his major.
Of course, it depends on your major, how the credits will work, your language skills, how good you are at handling things on your own, and the program.
If you are adventurous, go to the most different place offered- the place least like the rest of your world- and with the smallest number of other US students.
If you have a choice of programs, choose the one that puts you in regular classes (some programs host their own classes in the study abroad location).
This is like asking where is the coolest place to go on vacation.
I can’t stand Paris.
@collegemom3717 is right it would still depend on the line of study you wish to pursue I think. For instance, Paris is quite great in culinary, USA for the modern arts (I think?).
if what you mean by “cool” is “cool” then definitely Paris would be in the list. However for me Countries in Asia, like Japan, would be “cool”. But if what you meant by “cool” is the “most preferred” then I wouldn’t know I’m still in search of it as well.
Again, it will depend on your major and whether you want to study in an English speaking country or learn/immerse in a new language. Having said that, it would be hard to beat any of the major European capital cities. Other popular options are Sydney, Melbourne or Auckland. If you want something more adventurist, you might want to consider Hong Kong, Tokyo or Mumbai.
So it’s still Europe who’s top rated on this field? Where is Auckland located?
Oh right, New Zealand. Wow! I think that would be an adventurous one as well you might encounter hobbits and all. lol .
I agree that it depends on your field, but my money for the coolest place in the world is on Barcelona, Spain.
@whatisyourquest I agree, Barcelona is awesome. Other great non-capital university cities are Bordeaux, Cork, and Munich.
One advantage to studying abroad in Europe is that it’s quite easy and not that expensive to travel to many different countries. My son was based in Copenhagen, Denmark and managed to travel to 11 different countries, including Iceland, during his 6 months in Europe.
Personal favorites in Europe: Berlin, Prague, Budapest
@londondad you truly consider HongKong an adventurous place? why is that?
To me, I guess I would choose a country that has a completely different culture or maybe a completely opposite of what I have here in England. That would be an experience I would really really cherish
Hi everyone. My name’s Isabella Martin and I’m a newbie here in College Confidential. I’m a Filipino and I’m really interested to studying abroad after I graduate this April. Any suggestions please? I was thinking of Canada or any English-speaking country
You might want to start your own thread.
I would have to say, Japan, if you wanna venture the industry of technology and china for business. No particular uni or institution though for I have no idea what are the unis you can find there lol
I would say, either somewhere in Southern Europe (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy) or Japan, which is my favourite country in the whole world.
