I visited U of Pitt and i swear the dorms hadn't been updated since the 70s. Dorms arent always like that right? I also heard no ac...

Not plush, by any stretch of the imagination, but I've seen worse (and smaller). Ellicott, Denton and the other high rises around them do not have a/c (altho they say it's a problem for only the first 3 weeks or so of fall semester and the lounges ARE air conditioned)....cinder-block painted walls. I'll let someone who knows more than me comment on others...

check out resnet.umd.edu they have a lot pics and tours of the various dorm rooms and buildings

when i first walked into my dorm room, i was like scared b/c there were cinder block walls and i felt like i was walking into my jail cell.

BUT, after moving in, and that same night, i felt more like home. and now, after putting up posters/calenders and scattering our stuff around the room, it definitely feels more like home. more like a second home, though. but still, not bad at all. especially since these high rises are sometimes called social dorms..everyone talks to everyone so it makes you feel comfortable.

sounds good what are the chances that u will have a high rise dorm, are most dorms like that or

are all freshman in honors put in denton hall?

No, Gemstoners are put in Ellicott, Honors Humanities are put in Wicomico, and a few random freshmen are put in Queen Anne's or Anne Arundel. (We still can't figure out how they ended up there.)

Here's a picture of my room in Denton in October (all cleaned up for parents weekend). I couldn't get the whole room in the shot from the door--to get an idea of how much more room there is, imagine two twin sized beds fitting parallel to the one on the left (taking up the empty floor), and a hamper and dresser in the far right corner.

That would make it really long and narrow wouldn't it?

Johnny Walker Black Label?

I mean you can take the bed with the dark blue comforter and shift it over twice right (I was trying give an idea of how wide the room is). Oh, there's also a nook for the door to open.

are the scholars dorms better? like Bel Air?

elicott sucks, cumberland is probably better. La plata, easton suck too. Overall, do not expect a dorm to be as comfortable as ur house. It's like public facilities. Sometimes some kid doesn't let you sleep at night.

sounds like college, living in crappy dorms is part of the college experience, so suck it up people cause there are a lot of pluses to living in the dorm, easier to meet new people, always someone to talk to cause no matter how late it is someone is awake, easier to find a study partner. And living in a dorm allows u to be closer to classes and u dont have to deal with finding a new parking spot for ur car everday, trust me that can get annoying especially if u have a class around 12 by which time most parking spots are gone. and living in a dorm can be kind of fun if u have a social group of people on ur floor and if your RA is cool.

correct me if i'm wrong, chaoses, but i was under the impression la plata was considered the most desirable highrise.

yeah la plata is highly sought after. a lot of freshman that i know who live in denton right now (like me) are trying to get a spot in la plata (like me).

it's soooo close to the gym and the diner...and has a/c...and walking to classes isn't that bad with shortcuts. plus it's good exercise. :D

wat about cars, are freshmen allowed to bring cars

Freshmen are allowed to have cars. They park in the Arena Garage by Comcast Center.

sounds good,
