What are the essay questions for NU?

I would like to start on my essays during the summer. Does anyone know the questions I will have an opportunity to answer? Please be as specific as possible.

Northwestern uses the Common Application, available online and in paper form. The following prompt is for a required Northwestern essay.

“What are the unique qualities of Northwestern - and of the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying - that make you want to attend the University? In what ways do you hope to take advantage of the qualities you have identified?” (CommonApp.org)

Also, you need to submit a “personal statement” type of essay for all colleges on the Common App (one essay works for all of them - it’s just an essay so they can get to know you). It should be 250 to 500 words. The prompts (pick ONE) for that are:

Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.

Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.

Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.

Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence.

A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.

…OR… Topic of your choice.

Thanks a ton BelleNiente. I just have one more quick question, what is the word limit for the “why NU” essay?

I also am wondering the word limit for ‘Why NU’

There’s no limit given. But, you should obviously use your judgement, say what you need to say, edit it carefully, and not write pages and pages, because no admissions officer has time to read that.

Would anyone be able to read my NU essay and give some feedback if i PM it to you?
