Basically title. I’m curious what are some of the most popular, influential, and/or important organizations & activities on campus! (From what I remember from when I visited, the Corp has a pretty huge presence on campus, although I assume an organization of that size at Georgetown is in a class of its own)
The Corp is pretty large, but it tends to be a bit overstated during the tours because it sounds like a pretty cool and novel concept (“Largest completely student-run business in the world!”). In reality, there’s probably around 50-60 people per year in The Corp spread over ~7 individual locations that tend to operate fairly independently (though some Corpies crossover and such). Also, The Corp tends to draw ire from a portion of the student-body because of its cliquiness and bizarre and highly selective application process.
Other types of popular groups are politically oriented groups (Dems, Republicans, H*yas for Choice (and Vita Saxa, the pro-choice group), GU Fossil Free, Georgetown University Student Association, etc.), service oriented groups (DC Reads, DC Schools Project, After-School Kids), arts groups (a capella, dance, etc.), club sports, cultural groups, and increasingly Greek life (4 social fraternities, 2 social sororities, a few coed professional/service fraternities, and a service fraternity).
