what are the pros and cons of superscoring the act?

i just received my second act score and it was forgettable to say the least. however, i did have some bright spots (perfect on the english section) and am wondering about superscoring, particularly, what are the negative aspects of superscoring the act? thanks!

I’m not quite sure what you are asking here. Why would there be any negative aspects of superscoring the ACT to get a higher score?
You should keep in mind that not all schools will superscore. Perhaps you should visit the websites of the schools you are interested to see if they do.

i’m worried that the schools will wrongly assume something of me when they see my second test score and the lopsided subscores

Can you post your scores so we can see what your talking about?

The downside of superscoring is just what you suggest. If you scored, say, staight 29’s on one test, then on the next you had all 22’s and a 36, well, those 22s don’t exactly look good. Colleges that superscore promise to only consider your best scores, meaning technically those lower 22’s on the second test have no impact on your profile. In reality, whether or not they technically “consider” the 22’s, they will see them, it may bring your abilities into question.

If you post your scores you’ll probably get a better answer though. If the other sections didn’t drop by much, it’s probably not a big deal.
