Thank you so much you guys! A LOT of help! :3

I’m an English major who’s desperate to knock those three hours of required math out of the way.

Any help? Easiest course for that? Best prof?
I only went as far as Algebra 2 Honors, and then I stopped because I could. haha

Which reminds me, I used Pick a Prof to find this semesters class schedule for me. Does this sound okay or does someone have any suggestions? (Before the semester I will have credit for RHE, English, Cal 1 and Cal 2, and PRETTY sure for Government)

I’m in Gateway so should get first pick at classes and stuff - still looking for alternatives in case I don’t get into some of the classes though. So this is what I have in mind:

11 AM to 12 Pm: MUS 313 - Fundamental Music: Piano Experience - March, Hunter (3 credits)
1 PM to 2 PM: ECO 304k - Microeconomics - Stephen Bronars (3 credits)
5pm to 6:30pm: UGS 302 - Young People and Drugs - T, Aanstoos (3 credits)

Still looking for two other classes to take…but what does anyone think so far? About the scheduling, teachers, and classes? I want to get an opinion before Orientation because I don’t have that much trust in the counselors over there. ^^;

Wow…the reviews on MYEDU were totally different!!! He sounds like a bad teacher. Ugh. Anyone else know anything about this teacher? Or know a better one for Eco? Thanks Ali.

Does anyone know how IB/AP scores are factored into class registration for freshmen? I mean, my orientation session is about a week before I receive my IB scores. So, how will I be able to register for more advanced classes without my scores?

moochi, if you really want to take Microeconomics during the Fall 2009 semester take it with Wiseman, his class usually has the most As. If its not neccessary then wait untill the spring.

^sodaquake, you might be able to register for advanced classes (but not upper division), not sure what you mean by advanced howeevr so talk to an adviser.

GOV 310L with Prindle is really good too. His lectures are interesting and everything on his test is straight from lecture or the book. its very straightforward

piano classes are very hard to get into, especially as a freshman since those classes are really small and upperclassmen get first pick for registration so you probably shouldn’t expect to get into one of those this year.

I’m referring to classes such as M408D (multivariable calculus). I expect to have IB scores to get credit for M408C.

^ If you sent in the credit then you should be able to sign up. I’m not sure if UT has cut scores for IB credit but they do for AP. Good luck in M408D (I heard Oscar Gonzalez is a good professor for this class so if he’s offering it, take it with him).

Ok thanks Ali. I have to take it Fall though because it’s I’m doing internal transfer to the Business school. So Wiseman though.

Well, the problem is that my IB scores don’t come out until after my orientation session. Will I just register for the standard math class then, and when my scores come out I can drop that class and register for the correct one?

^ I’m not positive you can but it may be possible. If they come out within 3-4 days of orientation then it should be okay but just know that UT takes forever to upload documents, just talk to an adviser and prepare for the worst and make sure you have a backup plan in mind.

moochi, hope Wiseman turns out okay for you.

BTW, for everyone that is going to UT either as a Freshman or transfer student you should join UTranstion and Texas FIRST (for Freshman) they are good organizations that will help you out and you can make friends this way.

If you join UTranstion you can get extra tutoring hours FOR FREE which will come in handy for Calculus at the Jester tutroing center.

Is it a good idea to book an extra class in case you don’t like one you got?

Oh and what does this mean “MUS 605 AND 313 MAY NOT BOTH BE COUNTED.1 LABORATORY HOUR TO BE ARRANGED.STUDENTS WHO DO NOT ATTEND THE FIRST CLASS MEETING WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE COURSE.” Does Mus 313 Piano-experience have a pre-req or something?

soadquake - You will hear this at registration: you can register for classes using your best guess of what you will get on your IB tests. (I would suggest you register for the higher level class because you will probably get the IB credit.)

MUS 605 AND 313 MAY NOT BOTH BE COUNTED.1 LABORATORY HOUR TO BE ARRANGED.
=-=-=-
It’s okay. This just means 1) if you already have credit for MUS 605, you can’t also get credit for MUS 313 and 2)There will be one more hour a week, like a lab or discussion section.

can somebody tell me more about utranstion or texas first? how can I join, benefits and obligations, website, etc2:)
