What courses did you take your freshman year? Which ones should i avoid and what are some that are easy for my first year? I'm entering UT in the engineering major.

Should I take a summer class at ACC, or work before my freshman year starts?

aww do challenge yourself. If you wanted to take easy courses you should’ve gone to a community college freshman year. but if you’re looking to get used to college life first before trying anything academically risky, I’d say take the required courses for your major plus the courses you need to graduate (writing, government, economics…) if you haven’t exempted those already. It’s good to get those out of the way so you have more time your senior year to do research or investigate post-college plans.

but since I’m not a UT student yet, I’ll don’t know which courses you should avoid

The easiest class anyone could take their freshman year is one for a gym credit. Aerobics, regular p.e., yoga, I’m sure you could find something easy and fun in that category depending on your physical abilities. Personally, I’m not that strong but I have flexibility so I’m thinking about taking something like yoga.

If you can, either by yourself or by meeting with an advisor, try to map a four year plan to figure out which classes you need to take (by subtracting any credits you may already have or any summer classes you plan to take.) You can talk to an advisor during orientation, if that helps.

Also, don’t totally blow off freshman year with easy classes – you’ll regret it later on when you have a high number of hardcore classes all in one semester.

I second History of Jazz. Although I didn’t take it at UT Austin, I took it at UT-Arlington and it is a very easy class if you are good with names. Its an interesting class that can get boring but still very, very easy. I also made a 98 in the class.
