I’m planning to change my major in my third year. Is that too late? When I finished my second year I have a 1.95 GPA but I need at least a 2.0 to change majors so I might still need a quarter or two to raise it. It’s going to be my third year in 16-17 year. I also saw the requirements on the website but it’s very long. Can someone sum it up in bullet points or something? Thanks.
Which major are you planning to switch to? Have you spoken with your major advisor at UCI? What is your current major? Since your GPA is below 2.0, are you currently on academic probation?
What courses have you taken and how many will satisfy the requirements for the other intended major?
I’m planning to switch to education. My current major is biology. I have 93 units out of 180 and about 7 classes to take to fulfill the major requirement.
Are you an international student?
Have you attended any of the office hours to get help?
If you have a language barrier, it doesn’t sound like you are prepared for English university work if you can’t summarize graduation requirements. Are they confusing to you?? You can ask an advisor at UCI to help you.
You need to learn to ask for help from your college.
With your current grades, the CSUs will probably not accept you and you would have to buildup your GPA by going to a community college and taking courses there to increase your GPA.
When you entered UCI, at your first pass, you should have received a booklet with each of the graduation requirements? This checklist is generic so that you could fill in and check off your major’s requirements.
If I take all the GE classes and the major requirement classes as well as completed the 180 units requirement will I get my bachelor degree?
See your advisor at UCI. They can go over what courses you have completed and which courses are still needed. That is why you pay tuition. Utilize the services offered at UCI.
Yes, agree with @Gumbymom, you need to speak with a person at your school. People on this website will be helpful, but we don’t know the complete rules for your school.
Do not be afraid to ask questions of your staff at UCI. They know the answers, we don’t.
I agree with the above two posters. If you don’t know get off of a website and ask a human being in person…they are getting paid for you to come in and “bother” them so never feel like you have a stupid question…just don’t ask them the same question over and over again.
As a senior at UCI, when you log in to EEE there is a section to the left (don’t ask me to walk you through this because you should know all of this by now and if you don’t go phone a friend). When you click on degree works it literally GIVES you everything you have accomplished so far and the track path you need to get green check marks in before you qualify to graduate.
Your GPA is terrible and no major accepts below a 2.0 for transfer. So either go out for a year focus on the work at a CC for a year (they pretty much accept everybody with a pulse) and get your grades together or actually focus on the work and putting in the time and stay at UCI but even then maybe the quarter system is not your thing.
It’s really a shame you are even up here asking when I hear all over campus them pleading with students to come in for advising questions.
