I’m really looking into being a physician so I should definitely know the answer to this question, but what are the steps of medical school? Everyone keeps talking about step one and step two and things like that and I honestly have no idea what they are talking about. Thanks for any answers!
All med students are required to take and pass a series of three national standardized licensing exams. (USMLE for allopathic students and COMLEX for osteopathic students)
USMLE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Medical_Licensing_Examination
COMLEX http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COMLEX-USA
Step 1 is the first exam in the USMLE series. Level 1 is COMLEX equivalent.
Step 1 is important because the score you earn has an impact on your likelihood of acceptance should you choose a highly competitive residency. It’s not the only factor, but it matters. Second year med students spends weeks or even months prepping for their Step 1 exam which is administered the summer after their second year.
OP,
You need to chill a bit, instead of focusing on Med. School things, just enjoy your current life. It looks like you are way way ahead of your own self, nobody bothered with all of these, you will not understand it anyway (although you mihgt think that our answers may enlighten you, nope, not at this stage of your life, way too early!!!). The advice that give to my D. (4th year Med. Student): focus on TODAY, make sure that TODAY is as perfect for you as possible, positive and rewarding. Focus on tomorrow when it comes…, one day at a time, one little task at a time…
