I am a National Merit Finalist and would really like to attend Barrett. For those of you who attend the Honors College. What are the students there like, in general?

I’d recommend coming for a visit, but BHC students are very diverse in both personality and interests.

Yeah, I wouldn’t say there is a type. There is basically any type you can think of. You can easily find your niche. And I agree with above that you should visit. It wasn’t until my visit I decided to come. Also, don’t be afraid to talk to other students besides the tour guide and such. We’re happy to answer questions and you’ll probably get a better feel for the people from asking many people than just one.

Thank you. I am going to visit, but its the second to last week of april, leaving me little time to make the decisions. I’m a little nervous about leaving the decision until the last minute.

I guess I was also wondering, I keep hearing about how the regular ASU campus has a lot of partiers, but didn’t think Barrett. I’m kind of nerdy (video games, fantasy novels, etc.) and was trying to gague whether I would fit in at Barrett or not.

I was that way and I fit in fine. There’s a spectrum. You will find people with similar interests and those that you can learn new interests from.

Yeah, I’m kind of nerdy and I’m fine too. There are typical ASU partiers in Barrett, but there are also tons of other types. You should fit in fine. It is the honors college after all.

Well, considering that we had a Harry Potter winter party for the whole honors college last year, I’d say you won’t have problems.

I just had my orientation and all of my fellow students were very nice! I started chatting with this guy about how our AP classes were all experiencing senioritis! I talked to a lot of people and none of us have even officially started college yet. It is awesome and as long as you are open to ideas and new people, then you will make friends super fast!

I have a few friends in Barrett this year. They are just normal kids - trying to manage school and having fun. Barrett throws the best events, in my opinion. Everyone that I knew that went into Barrett without being a Barrett kid was more or less judged though. I even felt that way when I was there with my Barrett friends.
