What are the test centers like for the SAT?

For example, I am going to take the SAT at my local highschool. I was just wondering how we sit, who we sit with, are you in a classroom or a large room like the gym/auditorium? Do you sit where you want or is there already a specified area? Can you see people around you or are there things setup to block everyone’s papers?

Any information would be great, thanks!

It varies. Sometimes they move a bunch of desks or tables into a gym or cafeteria. Sometimes they split you among classrooms. Usually there is enough space between testers so you can’t see people’s stuff. You can usually sit where you want within the assigned room. Dress in layers so you can be comfortable if the room is hot or cold, since you can’t know for sure. If there is something uncomfortable about your seating (say you get a right handed desk and you are left handed!), speak up right away before the testing starts to see if you can get alternate seating.

In my situation, I’ve always been split into a classroom. Besides the ACT where left handed students have to be on the right side, you can pretty much sit where you want. The proctor will probably reassign everyone anyways based on alphabetical order of surname.

There are no dividers or anything like that, just space like you’re in a normal classroom taking a test or quiz.

When I took it at my school, testers were divided into classrooms by surname alphabetically and also seated in that way too.
