does anyone know what schools have good programs in the environmental science category?

You might want to check out the Environmental Education Directory site. Not only do they have a searchable database of schools offering majors related to environmental science, they also have lists of related scholarships, and some excellent career information. Here's the link: http://www.enviroeducation.com

One piece of advice: see the above site to get an idea of just how broad the majors that fall under the category of "environmental sciences" really are -- and try to decide which interest you the most.

In truth, there are many schools which can do a great job of preparing you for a career in an environmental science related field. So, start by thinking a bit about what you want beyond the major -- do you want a small, medium or large school, what type of location, type of social scene, will you need financial aid, etc. Then take your grades, test scores, etc. into account.

For example, let's just take size and location. If you want a smaller school located in a rural area, you might look at the College of the Atlantic, Middlebury or Allegheny, all of which have great environmental studies programs (but these are NOT the only ones out there with great programs!)

If you want a larger school, you might look at the U of Colorado, UC Santa Cruz, the Unviersity of Florida. More urban? U of Pittsburgh, U Penn, Portland STate (Oregon)

A mid sized school? U of Vermont, Evergreen State, Case WEstern.

See what I mean? These are all great schools to study environmental science, but they are all VERY different from each other. So, pick what matters to you beyond the major first, then consult the above reference site to find schools that match up with your needs/wants. That way, if you decide that "Environmental sciences" is not right for you, you won't be stuck at a school that you hate in other ways. Again, the above list is NOT inclusive, and I am sure that you'll receive many replies telling you that such and such school is the "best" for environmental science, but really what you need to look for first is the BEST school overall for YOU specifically. Good luck with your search!

thanks a lot
