Which majors offered at UCSC are ranked high in the nation? And how strong are Cognitive Science, Computer Science, and Global Economics?

bump on this. especially curious about computer science, and i’d like to add computer engineering if possible.

UCSC’s Astronomy/Astrophysics, physics, international finance, and linguistics are some of the best programs in the world. I’m not sure about computer engineering and computer science but I will tell you this, UCSC’s proximity to Silicon Valley is a great benefit. Many companies/firms from the Silicon Valley recruit here. There are many opportunities.

No kidding. Google recruits from UCSC. As do EA and Zynga. Lots of other companies, but those are the big names that come to mind.

Quick note: International finance is for UCSC’s grad school. Global economics isn’t really a subject that has ratings, but it’s so-so.

Otherwise, UCSC has great undergrad programs in linguistics, nearly all disciplines of physics, and marine biology.

I’m not really sure about the undergrad programs in CS/CE because I haven’t heard that much about it, but I really wouldn’t be surprised if it was ranked high due to the silicon valley connection.

For grad school, UCSC is really amazing in the computer engineering department. I had 3 CE grad students as neighbors when I lived in Santa Cruz and they were all flooded with offers from Google, federal/military government projects, Microsoft, and etc. International finance is also very strong because of the connections nearly all the econ professors have with major institutions/corporations.

UCSC is most famous for its research impact. It is around the Top in many different fields as far as research goes. Participation in research is one thing many Grad. Schools like to see.
