Have a high school sophomore D who will be pursuing a BFA in MT. I see the term “Unifieds” come up in many posts but am not familiar. I assume it refers to a group audition (central local for many schools). In the sports world we called those showcases where coaches from many teams would come to tournaments and watch hundreds of kids at one time. Please advise. Thanks.

Thanks. So I assume if a program isn’t listed you do those individually and then knock out the rest with Unifieds? Is there an advantage / disadvantage auditioning for a “unified” school at their campus vs. doing the unified?
There are schools not listed as official Unified schools that will be at unifieds. They are often at alternative locations during the same time period so many of the auditions can be done there. Many schools will tell you there is no difference between auditioning at Unifieds and on campus (the audition is generally the same - without the tour). Some schools encourage you to audition on campus. From the UMich website: “We strongly recommend auditioning or interviewing in Ann Arbor.” Other schools will hold master classes for students who do on campus auditions (e.g., Wright State, Texas State). One of the major advantages of unifieds is being able to get a number of auditions completed in a short time span. One of the major disadvantages is having all your auditions scheduled over a 4-day period and coming down with laryngitis. Students are accepted every year from both. Do what works for you and your student.
thank you
I assume this all transpires senior yr with the application process?
Yes. Senior year.
Keep in mind that many schools have a prescreen process, and you can audition ONLY after you passed prescreens
