What are you guys doing for the nerves?

I'm crazy nervous about the June SAT results coming out. I need a 1300 on CR+M. Sure for some of you that's nothing, but I need it. I got a 1280 last time. I did prepare a bit and study before this one. I'm still nervous and worried I might do the same or even worse. What do you guys do to decrease this feeling?

I’ll just speak from my experience of getting test results, but I’ve never really found a way to manage the nerves. For the last ACT that I took, it was a state test, that was reported via mail before it was posted online. Since I had school (and AP testing), I really didn’t focus on when my results would come in. But when I got the mail and saw an envelope from ACT, I flipped out. I was literally shaking. But once I opened it, my nerves really went away, as I had gotten what I had wanted.

My only advice is to try and forgot about when it will come. Get yourself distracted, and only check once Collegeboard informs you that your scores are ready. When it comes time to check them, you just have to gut up and do it. Realize that retakes are possible, and it isn’t the end of the world.

And, if you really think that you did terribly, check really late at night, so you don’t have to share your frustration with anyone, and can sleep off your disappointment.

The ACT is going to be bad, because the range of when scores will be reported is huge. The first possible date is June 24th, so you can bet that everyday after June 24th, I’ll be checking the ACT website at least 10 times a day.

I knoww
I’m just so nervous because if I get a really high score, all my problems get so much smaller and more controllable

Just relax and keep your mind on other school work. If you aren’t in school at the moment, do some activity where you’re not near a computer. If it works out, hey, it worked out. If not, just nod and try again if you’d like to. It’s not the end of the world even though it may feel like it. It’s just a test.

I like Ikey86’s response. It’s just a test. Take a few deep breaths when you start to feel anxious.

I took the may SAT and I took a few AP exams after that so the studying and testing took up about 12 of the 19 days of waiting. The remaining 7 days were torturous haha, I feel where you’re coming from. The best thing to do, as the others have said already, is to try and pass the time doing other activities. For me it was studying for some subject tests and getting out of the house. Since there are no more tests, I would suggest, if you’re a rising senior, starting with your essays, maybe hanging out with your friends, just get your mind off it. What I do, and is pretty cynical, is to just expect some worst case scenario haha. As pessimistic as it sounds, if you surpass it, you are much happier, and if you fluke, then its not that bad, and there will be time to improve and take again. It worked for me and I was over the moon with my 2300  . Good luck with your scores, i’m also nervous for my subject test scores…

I really don’t think about when I’m gonna get my scores back. I have plenty of stuff to do over the summer anyways.
