Im giving up Yale. It was a tough choice until I saw Stanford for the first time than it was a no brainer for me. Perfect fit. Anyone else???

Princeton..

wow... you guys must have had a really tough time deciding! (i'm saying this because yale and princeton were before stanford on my list, but they both rejected me.)

i'm giving up duke and a bunch of LACs, but stanford was the OBVIOUS choice for me. :D

Smoking and nail-biting. :)

krona...what made you choose Stanford over Princeton? I only ask because Princeton and Stanford are my top choice schools. Also...Stanmaster...what made you give up Yale...besides the campus?

MIT and Columbia and a few others not worth mentioning (like Williams)

I basically didnt think I fit in at Yale. The kids just didnt seem comfortable to me and many of them were uptight. The kind of kids there are amazing at school and something other than school and they arent afraid to tell you. At Stanford everyone was looking for the fun in life and were so laid back. I felt like I belonged since I am that type of person. They are just as good as Yale kids but they dont feel the need to express it. It just felt right there, while at Yale it was alot more awkward. The decision was simple after I realized that Stanford was everything I wanted in a school and that Yale just wasnt

Johns Hopkins (BME), Berkeley (out of state, Regent's scholarship), and a few other full-rides or near full-rides (UT Austin, UT Dallas, etc.)

But seriously, I don't fill like I'm giving up anything. Stanford was my first choice and I applied early, and just did the other applications because my parents forced me to do them.

dreamsicle- ill trade you my place at Princeton for your place at Stanford!

you didn't get into stanford anonymous?

haha, i'm right with you dreamsicle!!

not sad about any particular college, but for me-I've always said I wanted to go east coast for school, or at least out of state, and then my final choice comes down to northwestern and stanford and here i am, staying in california. it's funny because when i was little i always declared that stanford would be the absolute last place i would ever go. (mmm...love that bitter taste of my own words). anyways, it was tough to give up the thought that i could go somewhere entirely new for college...but from now on i'm forgetting any of that ever happened...OHHHHHHH NINE!

MIT and Caltech.

It was a hard choice, but I decided Stanford was just were I belonged. Maybe it doesn't have the same reputation, but I'm going to be happier there.

Hahahaha yeah i didn't get into Stanford. Signifynothing, ifeelyah, I happen to live in the Princeton area. Funny that my situation is the exact opposite of yours.

(In fact, based on my school's previous track record of getting kids into Princeton, i.e. just one daughter of a prof., I didn't think I had a shot at Princeton.)

signifyingnothing, your last post could have been written by me! Oh, I was already feeling that harsh NE wind on my back...what happened? Argh/cheers for sticking with our roots.

An0nym0u5, I have a friend who is in your position--wanted desparately to get into Stanford but is going to Princeton. If I could give you my spot I would. =/

hehe ill make the most of it. optimism! my schools better for what im interested in and yours is better for what you're interested in! everybody wins!

An0nym0u5- hey, i'm sure you'll have an awesome time at princeton. i visited a few years ago and absolutely LOVED the campus. besides, you have a mascot, and i don't. :P

signifyingnothing- i actually had to choose between stanford and northwestern as well! (hmm well, the crappy finaid package from NU made the process a lot easier, but i had a hard time giving up the double degree liberal arts/music program.) but i'm glad you ended up choosing stanford, since california weather is way better anyway.

I think everyone loves their college in the end. i hear very few regrets.

Anyways, I like everything so much more now because it's way more fun to love a college that likes you back and admitted you.

dreamsicle and garou, how funny that we were making a lot of the same choices...well, we all obviously chose correctly :)

Anonymus, have a fantastic time at Princeton! (and enjoy having a real mascot, haha)

Word, Princeton's gonna be awesome. Upon staying over I realized being a townie isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Staying in a dorm doesn't let it feel like home at all.

It's good to see you guys with positive attitudes. I forgot to mention that the most important (to me) of the places that I gave up are Swarthmore and Brown. I feel like I'm the only one who chose between such "funky" schools and relatively straight-laced Stanford. It was a /very/ hard choice, but like y'all said, no need to dwell. I guess another four years in sunny paradise won't be so bad. =)

True, we may have an lame excuse for a mascot, but the dancing tree band mascot definitely makes up for it.

"Smoking and nail-biting."

Hehe.

UPenn (Wharton)
