What are you reading for English class?

I don't have an english class :D

This month were doing an author research project, me and my partner chose to do Stephenie Meyer. We have to read 5 novels, poems, speeches, or short stories from her. Most of her written work are novels, and a few short stories. I'm going to read Twilight, The Host, and Hell on Earth by the end of november :).

Frankenstein, it is such a dull book

Aw, I loved Wuthering Heights, but haven't read it for a few years.

AND, Heart of Darkness was glorious, I can't see how people hate that book... from first-hand experience meeting people who didn't like it, as far as I could tell, they were just disappointed that it wasn't full of car chases and mindless action. Uuuhhhh. Lol.

Right now we're reading Crime and Punishment, and that's always been one of my favorite books, so I'm happy about that :]

I hate AP English Language with a passion. We haven't been assigned ANY books so far for t. We switch off teachers every fivve weeks. Ones more philosophical, and one's more by-the-AP-test-without-actually-giving-us-AP-tests. I hate the ltter for week more. I miss reading novels though. So much!

Our class just finished Heart of Darkness. It's ok, but somewhat anticlimactic.

No book is worse than Moby Dick.

WHAT
10char

We read four books over the summer, and we're redoing them during the year...

...after we finish Hamlet, that is.

so far we have read pride and prejudice, the canterbury tales, beowulf, grendel, the wanderer, the wife's lament, sir gawain and the green knight, and macbeth all for a regular, collegeprep sophomore english class

We read Tess at the beginning of the year. Just finished a little poetry; I love Wordsworth. And now we're about to start Henry IV.

The Great Gatsby

I'm in Brit Lit this year and we've been primarily working out of the textbook. We started off with parts of Beowulf and then moved into the Middle Ages. We read parts of the Canterbury Tales and a bunch of other shorter poems and stories. Now we're on the Renaissance and reading Shakespeare's Sonnets. I think we're going to be reading three of Shakespeare's plays, one of each type (comedy, tragedy, and history) also. I have to say that it hasn't been that bad so far, but I would like to read some of the works in full rather than just a portion.

we just finished hamlet in ap lit and All the King's Men before that. Hamlet was ok. All the King's Men was one of my favorite books ever. I mean, Robert Penn Warren was a genius of a writer. everything--I mean everything--in the book is interconnected in so many different ways and the themes are twisted and turned in every way. His language is beautiful, and the novel offers a great insight to the political mind and the mind in general. Warren was primarily a poet, which can be seen through the language of the book. two thumbs up

oh and great gatsby before that

Macbeth; will read Crime and Punishment later this quarter

Just wondering, do you guys actually remember everything about the books you read?

I forget, even if I analyzed it like crazy for a month or two. I mean, I remember certain scenes and the basic, BASIC sections of plot, but not specifics, which is very bad. And I know if I thought it was a good book or not, but other than that, not really anything else.

We just finished The Sun Also Rises and Invisible Man is due next Monday.

Mulberrypie: I can only remember the most basic outline of the story (plot, setting, etc. I usually only remember 3 or 4 of the main characters...) but I DO remember the themes, symbols, etc.

New question for everyone: What's your favorite book, off the top of your head?

Pride and Prejudice. I didn't read it for class, I'm just trying to get through all the "classics" on my own, and I started with P&P. It was beautiful. Somehow, Wuthering Heights was wordy and annoying, but I could barely put down P&P. I guess I'm too romantic :P

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

It's not the most influential or informative book that I've read nor is it the best written, but it's one of those from which I managed to procure the greatest amount of enjoyment. ;]

^^ oh my god, HILARIOUS book! I read the next two after that, but each book got more and more... random, and not as witty - HGG was the best, by far.
