What are you thoughts on the new writing scores?

I got 32 C ( 34E.35M.30R.30S) and 27 writing. I do not like the way the writing score is factored into the ELA score. How can you average scores that are completely different in percentile scale? A 27 writing is 95%ile, while it takes a 32 in English to get a 95%ile. Something similar goes for reading… Clearly, the scores have different meanings and they are averaged.

I got a 27 with an essay that I thought was a little weak. I provided a vague critical context/introductory paragraph that generally addressed the main issue without taking any actual stance. In the next three paragraphs, I did what I thought was ¨evaluating¨ the viewpoints, but who knows if I had the right idea. After this, I shared my own thoughts about the question. I had no actual conclusion paragraph, I just ended on my own ideas.

Why did they make the curve so harsh? Do they gain anything out of it? And does the writing score affect the composite score? Thanks, I’ve never taken the ACT beore

How do you find percentiles for the new writing?

Son got a 28 ACT composite and a 36 in writing. Science continues to be a subject he has weakness in, so he is switching to SAT prep and will decide whether to even report his ACT test score when he applies to college. He was happy about the 36 in writing though, as it is closer in line with his intended major.
