That’s a possibility if the line is long, but we’ll be coming from the hotel hooked directly to the terminal, so would have to head outside to do curbside. I’ll keep it in mind. Could definitely be worth it if there’s a long line.
Also if you have to pay for a bag it’s usually cheaper to pay online prior than at the gate,
It’s the same according to AA’s website. I was going to go ahead and pay online until I read the part about it being free to certain Caribbean destinations. Since it’s the same I’ll wait and see. My guess is it’s just foreign destinations, but I don’t know. If wrong, I doubt I’d get a refund.
Haven’t flown in two years but last time I used a kiosk, there was an option to check bags and print baggage tags. Then we took the suitcases to a special location and handed them to the handler - no need to go to the counter.
Of course this may vary by airport.
Fares must be very market dependent. Right now you could fly from San Jose to Maui - leaving tomorrow - for $228 RT.
I could change my tickets on AA to get them cheaper now, but I like our seats and the difference isn’t great enough to make me want to fiddle with it.
When I checked prices for my oldest to join us if he could, his tickets were higher than if I’d made them when I made ours and the seat choices were quite limited. It ends up that he can’t come due to his new job, but overall, it seems hit or miss with flight prices.
Attention Hawaii travelers. Apparently, February 18 is being targeted as the date when booster requirement will be implemented (per TPG, not yet officially confirmed).
Yes the problem is I can’t get my ecredit to show at all on the app or website- it’s like it doesn’t exist. So I have to go through someone at Delta just to use them. That was part of what took so long on the chat- 3 people with ecredits- it was a mess, if I could have pulled them up online it would have been 5 minutes. Luckily, they can find the ecredits!!!
For any roadtrippers out there, we recently completed a 3 day, 1900 mile, drive. We chose hotels that have balconies, so we can open the balcony and hall doors upon arrival and create a draft to air out the room. Rooms also have to have their own heating/air units in the wall. The smaller the hotel, the better. We ate our meals in the car or in our hotel room. Finding restrooms along the way can be fairly tricky. We noticed many fast food places, Starbucks, etc., are only offering drive through. Gas station restrooms are hit or miss regarding how busy they are and how clean they are. Some states have more/better rest areas than others. Hotels are a great option, but I’m sure they aren’t happy to have non-guests coming in. I justify it by telling myself that because I stayed at a Choice Hotel last night, I can stop at any Choice hotels for the next couple of days.
We almost always check a bag. I prepay the night before when I check in. Once you get to the airport, it varies. Some make you use the kiosks, smaller airports not as much. I hate using them, because I am terrible at stupid things like putting those tags on my bag and making sure all the sticky stuff lines up. So often, I ask an employee to help me, or if there’s no line at the counter, I’ll ask if I can just go up there. Most of the time they say yes
But… You usually do something like type in your ticket code (the 5-6 letter/number combo) and then it scans our passports (or I guess drivers’ licenses. We always use the passport.) It makes you confirm stuff and then will spit out your bag tags and boarding passes if you want them. It is usually pretty straight forward with the prompts. once the tags are on the bags, some airports have a place to put them, others you still have to go up to the counter anyway and they take them.
This sounds quite do-able, thanks. If it doesn’t work, I was telling H that we’re old enough that we can always pretend to be old fogies and get someone to direct us to the correct spot. This isn’t our usual airport, airline, and we don’t usually check a bag, so that may, indeed, make us old fogies to some extent.
That’s always my reasoning. The GEICO airport commercial “don’t become your parents” was modeled after me. Paper tickets, check. I have to have a backup for my phone! Snacks that nobody will eat, check. Sitting at the gate clucking how the people running should have gotten there earlier, check.
But there are always employees milling around the kiosks to help people.
H was just telling me earlier today that he had to print our tickets off still. I mentioned that I’m pretty sure we can just use our phone. He replied with, “What if the phone doesn’t work?”
And I love people watching… plus we’ve had many snacks travel around the world with us, only to return home and be given (eventually) to the chickens.
Great minds think alike!
If something happens to your phone the gate agent can look up your ticket with your ID. No need to print out tickets as a back up ; )
I don’t worry about the gate…it’s TSA.
But everyone behind me has to be inconvenienced and wait. I have my backup in my hand!!!
Make sure you know your confirmation number, and/or the credit card you used to pay - that’s what they will want to “look up” your info.
After than it’s pretty straightforward.
@Creekland , sounds like you’re leaving for your trip skin. Hope all goes well as I know you have really looked forward to it!
Ok, I travel with my iPhone, iPad and Mac. There is no way all of them could fail at the same time. I would have a bigger problem if all of them went out on me.
It’s interesting, the last couple of flights TSA has not asked to see my boarding pass- just stick my license in the machine and pull down my mask. In Boston I show the airline person at the beginning of the ropes that I am TSA pre-check- but TSA told me they didn’t need it.
It’s a pain to pull it up on a phone with the mask and no home button, but I’ve noticed once it’s up the phone keeps it up and doesn’t go into lock mode.
