What are your thoughts on the youth generation (our generation).

I see young individuals with the most creative potential that has been in generations, yet they are throwing their lives away through sex, drugs, violence, and addiction to things like the internet. Basically they are throwing their lives away because of the choices they are making. Its a shame because they have so much potential and intelligence, yet they waste their lives doing meaningless things. Its not that this generation is lost, but the more time goes on, the more I see the destruction of a generation killing itself from the inside out. I do think this generation has a lot of offer, but its evident that a lack of parenting and good choices causes issues which lead to an early ending to life.

Our generation is fine.

Except for the internet part, you could easily say that about any generation before us. That’s way too general and cynical.

well kids younger then us swear alot drink under aged its increased in the past years and sex drugs all types of stuff but their is good in society its not all bad just swearing is the most consistent thing that bugs me why do they need to say fk or @$$ or B** ever other word but oh well

sadly i dont see anymore inosence, people are all about technology, money, drugs, sex, violence and stuff like that, what has our world become?? :frowning: im 18 and i wish i was born in a different decade.

Each generation has faults.

Every generation says that about the generation that follows it.

Except for the internet part.

You’d say the exact same thing in any decade. 90s was the same. 80s was worse. 70s well holy crap it was the 70s. Go all the way back to the 20s and you’ve got the flappers. People have been complaining about our ‘moral decay’ forever. I’m sure somewhere a caveman was mad that his son had painted people having sex on the wall.

First of all, it’s kind of twisted. Not much technology was provided for people back then before Industrial Revolution. Back way even before Columbus sailed to America, there wasn’t even that much money until people made crops and George Washington became the first president of the United States.

He wasn’t being rude, it was a statement.

Oh, definitely, this will be the generation that ends the world. Granted, this isn’t the generation with, say, the Holocaust, but definitely sex is a lot worse.

Sex was invented in 1991, right? Right?

Right, and back then people were innocent lambs. That’s why there weren’t constant wars, genocides, and women and non-white people didn’t have rights.

Seriously, every generation says this about the “new” generation. Our kids will be saying it 30 years from now, and our grandkids after that, etc. The truth is, our generation is a lot more tolerant and progressive than previous ones. We’re less racist and sexist and more tolerant of differences like LGBT overall.

I hate to break it to ya, but people have been having sex for a while now; it’s not like we’ve been reproducing through binary fission and then in 2002 sex came out. People have been doing drugs forever too. Sex ain’t evil. What do you think Mommy and Daddy did in the 60’s? They were probably having sex (not each other) and smoking a lot of pot and tripping on acid.

I agree, this generation has a lot more tolerance than previous…
We haven’t enslaved a race either. Another plus.

Nostalgia fail.

Nostalgia might be about the past and recreating the “innocent times” that never really existed, but it is a product of an individual’s dissatisfaction with their own situation in the present.

Somewhere around there, yup.
And I think homosexuality was first discovered by scientists in the late 1980’s. And now it’s just everywhere. ugh… our generation is so corrupt. rolls eyes

I’m not sure if I like how you framed your post (OP), but I can agree with parts of it, I suppose. I would agree that sex, drugs, and alcohol are reaching children in America at a younger age today; Bratz dolls, teenage Dora the Explorer… It’s sad that they’re made to grow up sooner than need be. :(

I have to highly question the idea that sex, drugs, and alcohol are actually reaching children earlier. My parents could get alcohol just as easily as any teenager today, and drugs more easily than even a lot of adults today.

And contrary to what people seem to think, the fact that the mass media didn’t make a habit of broadcasting sex doesn’t mean that kids didn’t hear about it. It’s not as though little Johnny has no idea what sex is until he sees people doing it on TV.

The drinking age used to be 18 when our country was rational about that stuff, so obviously most people were drinking earlier back then. And it’s not like anyone did drugs back in the 60’s and 70’s, right? oh wait…

Whoa whoa whoa, what’s this about Dora and some kinky sex tape with the Bratz dolls?! I thought Dora was that 6 year old Mexican who went around saving baby bluebirds?

Amarkov,

There are statistics that show drugs and alcohol are now being found more frequently in the hands of kids as young as 8 or 9…elementary students :s. When I said “children”, I was talking about children, not teenagers. I thought teenagers was a given. I certainly don’t remember people using that stuff when I was a young’un; I probably would’ve at least overheard it…have you met an 8 or 9 year old who was that good about keeping a secret?

Either way, there is a general trend of age-behavior being pushed up. I don’t understand how you can’t see that… #1) look at the kind of shows that cater toward children and the idols that children look up to now, and #2) look at the wide expanse of media that is used to market them today (i.e. internet)…it’s a larger range than ever because there are so many more ways to build brands. So it’s increasingly reaching younger children…

Need I really point out Justin Beiber who looks like he’s 10-12 singing about serious romance? XD

I think our generation is pretty much terrible. Except for me, because I’m amazing.
