Colleges Applying to:
Tufts
Colby
Barnard
NYU
Macalester
Carleton
Wesleyan
Reed
Vassar
U of Florida (safety)

OK, please tell me what you think. Thanks everyone! I appreciate it.

U of Florida isn't a safety at all for you...I'd say it's a match. I'd consider adding another safety or two, but you'll probably get into at least 1 of those.

Are you joking??? Or are you on the Florida public relations committee? A top 3% 1370 is not only a 100% guarantee at Florida, she will likely get money!! I know a family friend in state who had a 1100 who got in!!

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

I feel like statistically I really have nothing great to offer the colleges I'm applying to that so many of you seem to have.
1. I don't really have any job experience.
2. I don't play any instruments.
3. I'm only taking 2.5 APs this year.
4. I couldn't even take a math class this year because of scheduling problems.
5. My AP scores are mediocre.
6. I don't have legacy at any of the schools I'm applying to except for Vassar (unless Columbia legacy would count at Barnard, which I doubt).
7. I never played any sports, except for girls' football freshman year.
8. I'm not a minority, nor am I bilingual, trilingual, etc.
9. I'm not from a particularly geographically underrepresented area, like say, North Dakota.
10. I'm not from a school that has a particularly good reputation (not that most Florida schools do have good reputations, lol).

lol, I'd say you're too pessimistic. Your positives (Class rank, SAT, GPA, and so on) far outweigh your negatives. And don't be discouraged by all the overqualified people on here. While a good number of ccers are "trilingual' and have done 'research' with MIT Professors, it doesn't mean that they are the norm. Most of them are crazy anyway.

Lol, I know. I guess that did come out sounding like I'm an uber-pessimistic, depressed person. Really not though, I promise. Just making the point that I've had a very typical high school experience and therefor, don't necessarily stand out from the other applicants who have 13 years of Irish dancing classes and spent their summers working as translators in Burkina Faso studying tribal dialects.

I have to agree that you have very few schools on your list that are reaches, and that is a shame. I would also recommend you add a few more. Don't bank on NYU as someone else said, because its not a guarantee (just quite likely) that you will get in. If you applied to Brown, maybe WashU or something like that they would count as a normal reach I think. Also, since you are low income, definitely no point in applying to 5 safeties.

cats, look around this board. People that have lower stats than you think they have a strong shot at Brown. Of course you are by no means a strong match for it, but I think you have as a good shot as any. It would really be a pity if you love Brown and do no apply. Your chances are definitely not slim

I have to admit that I sometimes get a little bit angry with this forum when people with 1580 SAT scores start complaining about how they'll never get into Cornell or Duke, or wherever else they're applying, because I feel like it's a call to get their egos stroked. Plus, it gives everyone the mentality that getting into college is virtually impossible. I'm honestly really surprised though that you guys have said I don't have any real reaches because I thought that they were all slight reaches at best. I mean, my father always tells me that I should seriously consider going to the University of Northern Florida, Florida Atlantic University, University of Central Florida, etc. I guess your encouragement is actually just a little bit unbelievable to me right now.

^ Ok, my fellow Floridian, if this helps, hehe. I'm in South Florida and I'm applying to Tufts, and my stats are MUCH lower than yours, I would relax, from the looks of it, you'll get into most places on your list. Statistically speaking ~70% of kids get into their #1 choice. :)

well, that may be true, but the majority of high school students don't apply to schools that are most or highly selective, no? whereabouts in south florida and where else are you applying?
