^ I hated that book.

Harry Potter series and Crime and Punishment…hehe-had an awesome lit teacher who pulled out so much wisdom out of that book, otherwise I probably wouldn’t love it so much. It truly is a masterpiece.

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk

Musicallylatin:

Well, I assumed that is what it would lead to because of differing views. I just didn’t want to seem accusatory before anything happened.

That guy needs to get a life. He attacks all his one-star reviews and sounds like a complete jerk.

Musicallylatin, that’s totally cool with me, I’m in to fiction too. JK ;)

^ OHM. Very tricky.

Tough to say one. The Harry Potter books have made a difference in some ways but also Flowers for Algernon and Catcher in the Rye.

the communist maifesto

inspired me to (attempt to) create a communism club

Mr.Poppers Penguins
HIs Dark Materials
sorry, no intellectual boks here.

Eugenides all the way. Middlesex and Virgin Suicides are some of my favorite books of all time. They’re so different from each other and yet so brilliant in different ways.

As for making a difference, though…that’s harder. There are a lot of things I like that impact my writing style more than my life. I think 201 stories by Anton Chekhov. They encompass so much; there’s a story for every emotion and every time of my life.

Never Let Me Go is quite close, though. Really made me value life a lot more

So what are people currently reading?

I’m cycling through “The Forest of Hands and Teeth,” “Rumors,” the most recent “Artemis Fowl” and Chopin’s “The Awakening.”

I can never read one book at a time. I always have to rotate through a bunch.

I hated the Artemis Fowl books. I stopped once it introduced Holly. Fairies? Come on…

Ignore my username for now :]

I love Artemis Fowl. An evil genius? Perfect. I’m sick of all those books where the character is “good.” Good is boring.
Plus Eoin Colfer is one my favorite writers. Airman was great.

^ I like the Artemis Fowl series… when I was younger ;). But good books.

I like Sophies World… this book knocked all my expecations on the ass… it is an amazing book. Also Catch-22 was rather interesting too.

Whatever, I’m on team Artemis Fowl too. Harry Potter is just as juvenile but everyone rallies that.

I’m surprised you read the last one Platts. I couldn’t get past the first chapter, it was complete green propaganda. I’m all for saving the planet too…but not when Artemis is supposed to be the bad guy. Destroy the world, dammit! What a cop out.

I heard Eoin Colfer is writing the next Hitchhiker’s Guide.

I never read the Hitchhiker’s Guide. I watched the movie (I guess the remake?) that came out in 2005-ish or something. I walked out during it, so I probably wouldn’t like the book.
I’m a huge sci-fi geek though, I’m (not-entirely-legally) downloading 2001: A Space Odyssey right now.

What do you use for downloading? Torrents?

PMed. 123456789chars

Artemis Fowl was a good series. If he had used his intellect for school related things he… well… would have been a much more boring person.

I don’t think any book has made a difference in my life lol. I guess I can thank Brian Greene for introducing me to string theory and giving me a deeper interest in physics. Right now I’m reading Hamilton’s Mythology, Kandel’s In Search of Memory, and Davis’s & Hersh’s Descartes’ Dream.
