What can I contribute?

What can students contribute to a university? I'm 16! I haven't really done much with my life. How do colleges expect you to know what you can add to their campus? What do you guys say?

well, what can you help them with? are you athletic? if you are, maybe varsity team? are you artistic? linguistic? maybe drama club? help them make better plays? loads of things! dig deep!

Try to think about your unique qualities or experiences.

Hey, this is great. What are some things/activities that we can think of to improve a college application?

Leadership skills--very vital to the admission application. Run for any type of office! Do whatever it takes to be an officer (especially pres.). Make an organization and have it approved by your school. Whatever it takes!

Awards--showcases a variety of talents. Compete in athletic competition, achademic competition, artisitc, etc. There are thousands of writing competitions that take place annually. Take advantage of these nationally run competitions. Poetry contests as well as essay contests are out there, you just have to look. Also, for those who are in journalism classes or are part of a school paper, talk to your advisor about competing in the national and state competitions for your paper.

Post-secondary--helps if available.

I can't think of anything else right now.
Anyone?

I just thought of something else. Create a webpage that displays your talents. Similar to a professional portfolio that can include a resume, hobbies, etc. I have a portfolio that I created in college, but it would have been smarter to create one in high school.
