Hi all,

I just sent in my UC applications today, and feel that my math scores might just kill them. I got a 720 in SAT I, 730 in Math 2 and, let's say the bare minimum required to pass in 12th.

Is it true UCs don't look at your 12th grade even if you already have the marks? If not, can I do anything to not look mathematically-challenged?

I can do a stand-by Math 2 for December, but I doubt if there's enough time to prepare and better that lousy 730.

I was also hoping for a good Math score in Sat I this Nov., but a -3 got 720.

Help!

I supposed that Indians and Russians are really good at maths…

It’s a long story, but I’m decent at Math, if not a whiz.

Getting from 740/750 - 800 is pure luck, that is if you’re not running into any hard problems on the exam that you can’t solve. Why is that? It’s because the difference between 720 and 780 is about -4 or so. That means, if you solve for X instead of 3X, or get the unshaded region instead of the shaded region, your score will plummet considerably, even though you are indeed capable and deserving of that 800. You just have to concentrate, be in the right mood and mentality, and hope for the best.

On the other-hand, if you’re still getting stumped by a large number of questions on the exam, then you might want to consider practicing more. That’s right, there’s no substitute for practicing. There are no tips, no secret strategies, no nothing. You practice, you win. Review your mistakes, might want to try substituting numbers in harder math problems, etcetera.

Which case is it with you?

As I said, the Math curve for Nov intl’s was very harsh. I got a -3 and 720 with that.

However, I only remember making one mistake (the 256 computer chips - bubbled it as 128 cuz of semantic disagreement in my head) - don’t know what the other two questions were that I got wrong…

However, I’ve taken the SAT twice already, so won’t retake it. Math 2 I could retake in December as a stand-by candidate, but preparing for that will take me practice, and I don’t think 1 day is good for that (have to submit by Austin app by Dec 1 - travel to the test center on Dec 2 as it’s in another town.)

Am I doomed?
