What Can You Buy At A Restaurant With a Budget of....$12?

Was at a breakfast/lunch place on Sunday in Mt Pleasant, MI. 3 people(2 breakfasts & 1 lunch) cost $34.13 before tip. (2 waters and 1 coffee). My 2 eggs, bacon, hashbrowns & toast were $8.99.

This is one of our go-to joints in Davenport. The food is excellent and the prices are pretty low for the area (and the quality…).

Drinking water and tipping sparingly – or getting the stew or basic mac and cheese, both of which are great – one could dine well here for $12.

A little Italian place we like has sub sandwiches for $11.50 as well as a small personal cheese pizza for 11.95 and sone salads, including one with some cold cuts or garlic bread with cheese. The rest of the menu is >$12.

I recently met some friends for breakfast/brunch at a local small restaurant. Most items on the menu ranged from $12 - $18, but their special of the day was a choice of two different scrambles. I chose the salmon scramble, which came with roasted potatoes. Portion was smaller than most hearty breakfasts, but plenty and delicious. $9 before tip!!!

How was the portion size? I remember D2 who was like 8 yr old and tiny ordered a dinner of some kind of pumpkin ravioli and had to order another one- she was still hungry.

Two chicken enchiladas, rice, beans for $11.95

Dh’s chimichanga was $10.95.

Other menu items included a burrito bowl or grilled burrito or quesadilla for $10.95. Individual tacos ranged from $3 to $5.95 each depending on type. Taco salad was $11.95.

This was at a full-service restaurant.

Well, those are nice prices. Most places we eat at have very little on the menu at or < $12. The food looks tasty too!

I really miss cheap Tex Mex. Can’t wait to get down to Austin next month to have some!

Pizza personal portion size was huge in Florence. Had out 2x, and we brought home leftovers. Now I did opt for the pricier kinds (better topping for 9euro and 12euro, but others liked their less expensive pizzas

Ah, just remembered that Italian restaurants often set up with Primi (pasta) course and Secondi (meat/fish) course. So yes, pasta portions might be small in that case.

We tried a (new to us) Mexican restaurant for lunch today, and the lunch menu was all $12 meals (7 choices) that included chips and salsa, rice and beans on the side, entree, drink, and dessert!

The food was very good, and the portions were generous.

Today, I was trying to spend a $50 gift certificate. We had breakfast for 2 and still had a balance so I got a takeout order of fried rice, still had a balance and finally got a side order of bacon @$6 and side order of sausage @$6. The 2 sides would equal $12. High protien meal, as long as you only want protein (and fat). Haha!

Thought of this thread this morning. j and I handed over the keys to our sold house today and I knew he’d be a little emotional about it so I suggested we go celebrate at a fav place of his… Cracker Barrel! :joy:

It was brunch time. Our bill was $23 something for the two of us. He had sour dough French toast and bacon, no drink. I had the $8.99 plate with 2 eggs, bacon, hash brown casserole and a slice of cinnamon roll pie (yes you heard that right - a cinnamon roll baked in pie crust) and coffee for extra $2 bucks or whatever.

Little money and under $12 easily for the meals themselves but about a zillion calories!! :joy:

I had to google Cracker Barrel. I’ve not heard of it. The nearest one is in Sacramento.

Bless your heart.
