What Can You Buy At A Restaurant With a Budget of....$12?

A whole cinnamon roll pie is $12.99, at least here in Pennsylvania.

@sushiritto in case that sounded too dismissive, Cracker Barrel is a chain restaurant mostly in the southeast US that is either, a heart attack waiting to happen; a reliable place near interstate exits or your kid’s directional college where you can take your elderly parents and/or your fidgety kids for a reliable meal; a haven for rednecks; a gift shop where you can find all the stuff you remember from your childhood; a gift shop with the most tacky items imaginable.

And “bless your heart” is southern speak for “ you really have no idea, do you?”

I might have to suggest this to H for my FIL’s Xmas present. (Seriously)

This is correct! !12.99. And it weighs about 3 pounds! Honestly I made a
Mental note…they had several pies that are $12.99 - Including pecan, chocolate pecan, pumpkin, apple, cinnamon roll!

Listen I’m not planning on going to CB on a regular basis but I knew it would hit the spot for H and it’s what he needed today. Place is always hopping too - SO many people!

No worries, I’m just always looking for new restaurant suggestions, which is why I googled it.

But Sacramento is not close. And I looked at the menu and CB doesn’t look like the place to eat for me, from what I gather through my cursory view. As you said, it does look like a “heart attack waiting to happen.”

But I did see that they have a cinnamon roll latte too.

Prices at diner in OKC there were many, many entrees under $12–sandwiches, eggs, omelettes, burgers, etc.

(Of course.)

While I have never been to a Cracker Barrel- yet, it is known for being a safe place to stop if you have to - over night in an RV. Most people get a coffee/ breakfast as a thank you.

We were in central Kansas last week. Many opportunities to buy a meal for under $12. Sandwiches, Mexican, Italian, pizza, omelets. Things that are routinely $16 here in the urban west coast were under $12 there. But the servers were making $2.13 plus tips there vs $13.50 plus tips here.

We boycotted Cracker Barrel when they were homophobic in the 80s and 90s and continue to boycott for the food. They might still be homophobic, I don’t know, but there ain’t nothing there I wanna eat. Got better breakfast places elsewhere.

We might order from a local burger/pizza/salad joint we frequently get takeout from tonight. They have many entrees under $12. My hubby likes their giant kale salad.

You might be able to supersize it.

Wait until he/she learns about Waffle House

For healthy and affordable Asian food, we love BibiBop, where you choose your protein and veggies for around $10/bowl.

I went to visit my mom in NJ. She said there was a great place for burgers - Shake Shack. I didn’t know we were going there until we got there. We each got a burger for $8. I ordered a coke and fries with mine. The bill came to around 25.

I love Shake Shack! We don’t have one near here…but they are in some airports!

Shake Shack is expensive, but I have always liked their burgers since having my first one in NYC way back when D1 was in college. I like their burgers as they are always fresh and not very big, but just enough.

H and I will go there for lunch sometimes and we each just get a regular shack burger and drink water so it actually does come out to less than $12 a person. Occasionally we will share fries, but these days we are more likely to just get a burger.

Shake Shack has a good Shroom Burger (deep fried portobello) for $8.69 in AZ, but not very healthy.

I found my reasonably priced heaven here in San Diego where I am caring for a grandchild. Two fish tacos, $6.50 or so. Fancier tacos with marlin, shrimp, etc are pricier. It is a food truck, but there is seating nearby. No need for indoor seating in San Diego. The proprietors add a cup of their fish soup broth while waiting.
