What category is CS in?

Hi,

My friends give me different answers. Some say CS is engineering, others say it is science. Please tell me which answer is correct.

Thanks.

All engineering is science.

It kind of depends on the school. Some universities have their own engineering school, with a CS branch in the engineering school. Others have CS in the School of Liberal Arts and Science. Some schools, like UIUC, have both. Students at UIUC can take CS in either engineering or in LAS.

As Wiki points out…

The academic, political, and funding aspects of computer science tend to depend on whether a department formed with a mathematical (science) emphasis or with an engineering emphasis.

In other words…depends on the school.

Cornell offers CS in both college of engineering and college of arts and sciences
