I am currently a junior deciding what classes I should take for next year. These are the AP, IB or higher level classes I have taken or am taking-
AP Gov
AP Calc BC
AP Physics C
AP US History
AP CSP
AP Stats
AP CS A
AP World History
IB English
IB Biology
MV Calc/Diff EQ
I am planning to take 5 classes next year and take the rest as internship periods.
Here are the classes I am planning to take next year-
IB English
IB Bio
Computer Science 3 (a class at my school after AP CS A)
AP Economics
Linear Algebra at local college
Should I take the internship periods and is my courseload over my high school career rigorous enough for top 10 colleges?
What level of foreign language have you gotten to?
Level 3 in French, but I didn’t take any higher because it would be less productive for me than taking a science class for example. But I am fluent in 3 other languages because I was born in a different country and moved around a lot until I came to the US in 9th grade
Your courses look rigorous enough. Have you taken chemistry?
A lot of the top colleges want to see an FL taken to level 4. I would substitute French 4 or whatever is the equivalent is at your school for the Computer Science class.
Top 10 admissions aren’t dependent just on the rigor of your courses. You need the entire package (GPA, test scores, ECs, recommendation letters).
@peach0v0 Yeah but I took Honors chemistry in 9th, not AP or IB. I tried to take AP but my school wouldn’t let me.
@Hamurtle I’d probably fail French 4 because it’s been like 2 years since I last took it. I have a decent GPA (3.98/4.75), 35 ACT, and I’d say my ECs are probably the strongest part of my application. Do you think that’s enough to offset not taking 3 periods of serious classes?
Some colleges may accept completion of a foreign language based on competency in passing an SAT Subject Test. I would still attempt French 4 though unless the schools that you are interested in do not specify 4 years of a single language.
