I’m aiming to be a surgeon. I have no idea what undergrad college I want to go to. What would be some good options for undergrad for me to become a surgeon? Also, I am a freshmen in high school, and I want to know what classes would get me into a good undergrad school. I am planning on taking for math (already completed algebra) geometry, algebra 2, pre calc and AP calc AB. For science, I took honors bio and got an A-, and plan to take honors chem, AP bio, AP anatomy and physics. Are these ideal classes to take to show I’m interested in medicine? Will I have to get A’s in all these classes?
You need to first get into college, then into Medical school and then you can specialize in surgery once you have completed Medical school and residency. You are looking at 10-11 years from now.
You do not need to focus on “medicine” in HS to go to an undergraduate college. You also do not need to major in a science for Undergrad to get into Medical school. In college you can major in anything of interest as long as you take the required courses needed to apply to Medical school.
What you want to do now is take challenging HS courses: AP/IB and/or Dual Enrollment. Get A’s in these courses especially the sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Biology since they will help you prepare for the Medical school pre-req courses you will need to take in College.
The courses you have listed are fine.
Look for volunteering opportunities that are medically related to see if the Medical field is for you.
The most important thing you can do is enjoy your High school years and take classes and do things that interest you, not what you think colleges want to see…
