What college course should I take?

I will be taking a free course at my local CSU. I am going to be a Senior in HS and going to get ahead in college credits. I want to be a civil engineering major, but still not completely sure. I can take An Intro Engineering class but our advisor says that it may only count as elective credits of we want to transfer them to another university. I am enrolled in the Computer Science course which is transferable to any university. But will it be degree applicable to Civil Engineering? Or should I go to engineering?

If it’s just an intro programming class it’s probably useful because I think at most universities all engineering majors have to take an intro programming class. I know at least at my school they do.

Take the intro to engineering course, if you’re at all unsure about your choice of major. The course is about, well, introducing what engineering in general is and what types of disciplines there are and what they do/study.

Otherwise the above suggestion of taking basic programming courses is appropriate.

Introductory CS courses vary in how they are structured at various schools, so there is no guarantee of transferability with them either.

Note that computing for engineering courses commonly use MATLAB as the programming language.

The introduction to engineering course may be helpful in letting you determine if engineering really is right for you.
